In the never ending drama surrounding Michael Jackson, Mocienne Petit Jackson, claims MJ is her father and Diana Ross’ sister Barbara is her mother. She filed a lawsuit requesting not only a DNA test but custody of his children so she can give them a “normal life.” Of course, she also wants her part of his estate.

TMZ reports:

Here’s the story — Mocienne claims back in 1975, 17-year-old Michael Jackson secretly impregnated her mother Barbara … who happens to be Diana Ross’ sister.

MPJ claims when she was 9 years old, Katherine Jackson hatched a plan to “abduct” MPJ and send her to Belgium to protect Michael’s “reputation.” She claims all 7 of her abductors were later murdered.

Now MPJ — who currently lives in the Netherlands — has decided to come forward with her story … so she can “formally claim my part of my father’s inheritance.” She also wants custody of MJ’s kids so she can give them a “more normal life.”

MPJ also claims she was diagnosed with Vitiligo … so, there’s that.

This woman has a website dedicated to revealing the “truth” and from reading just some of it, I get the impression she is not well mentally (Duh). She even admits her ex thinks she is “crazy” as well and has gotten custody of their son. So let me get this straight, she lost custody of her son but now she wants custody of MJ’s kids? Good luck with that.

She has a letter posted on her site that she supposedly sent to Brian Oxman, a Jackson family lawyer, after MJ died. Read it below.

By the way, the alleged mother Barbara Ross-Lee, is Diana’s older sister. She is a doctor and is the first Black woman to be appointed dean of a medical school.

Michael Jackson's father says he is "horrified" by the prospect Dr. Conrad Murray's legal team will argue that Michael Jackson accidentally killed himself by pumping a lethal dose of Propofol into his body.

TMZ broke the story that the defense believes Jackson woke up shortly before noon on the day he died, when Dr. Conrad Murray stepped out of the room, and injected enough Propofol in himself to almost immediately stop his heart.

Joe Jackson tells TMZ, "I don't believe it. It's not true. Why would he [Dr. Murray] hide all the bottles if such a story were true?"

Joe Jackson added, "The Coroner's report shows the story is not true," adding, "This really upsets me to hear this."

Joe Jackson plans to file a wrongful death lawsuit against Dr. Murray. While Joe Jackson's lawyer, Brian Oxman, says, "His [Dr. Murray's] story is medically inconsistent with the autopsy findings, he says before knowing for sure, "I would need to see the photographs of the scene in order to assess his story."

Dr. Conrad Murray is alleging that Michael Jackson is the one who administered the fatal dose of Propofol that killed him.

According to his defense lawyers, When Murray left the room, Jackson awoke and injected the remainder of a 20 ml bottle into his IV and killed himself in the process.

Since his death, finding out the circumstances surrounding Jackson’s death have been sketchy with a lot of he said she said banter going back and forth between lawyers for Murray and prosecutors.

In a new document it is revealed that Murray stopped performing CPR on Jackson upon finding him unresponsive while he removed drug vials from his room.

Why he would do this is anybody’s guess, but this does not help Murray’s defense one bit.

He is facing a manslaughter charge in Jackson’s death and will be facing some serious jailtime if convicted.

The bodyguard who allegedly helped DR. CONRAD MURRAY hide evidence of drugs minutes after MICHAEL JACKSON's death has been fired from his job.

Alberto Alvarez, who made the emergency call to paramedics on 25 June (09), was released from his employment on Friday (26Mar10), according to TMZ.com. The reason for his dismissal by the Jackson family is unknown.
Alvarez is said to have given a witness statement to Los Angeles police two months after Jackson's death, suggesting Murray stopped administering CPR to the star so he could hide various drug vials before calling paramedics.

In the leaked documents, obtained by the Associated Press, he alleges Murray ordered him to place drug containers in plastic bags and remove an IV tube from the singer's leg.

Murray, the King of Pop's personal physician, has pleaded not guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter after he was accused of administering the powerful anaesthetic Propofol, which led to the singer suffering a fatal cardiac arrest.

The lawyers working on behalf of MICHAEL JACKSON's estate have filed court papers dismissing claims the late King of Pop left behind a secret wife when he died last year (09).

Following the star's passing in June (09), Nona Paris Lola Ankhesenamun filed suit insisting she was the Thriller singer's partner and demanded that all of his "properties, monies and assets" be transferred to her.

The London-based woman had filed a lawsuit the year before his death (08) for a legal separation from the King of Pop in December (08), and had earlier claimed she carried the pop star's children, Paris, Prince Michael and Prince Michael II.

In 2006, Ankhesenamun also demanded ownership of Jackson's Neverland Ranch, child support payments and shared custody of the pop star's three children. The suit was rejected in 2006 and again in 2007, with a judge telling her to make a better presentation of her evidence.

Now, as two separate spousal claims against the Jackson estate are set to be heard in courtrooms next week (begs29Mar10), the late star's lawyers have filed documents insisting there was no "surviving wife" at the time of Jackson's demise.

In papers obtained by TMZ.com, the lawyers say, "Michael Joseph Jackson did not have a surviving spouse. He was not married at the time of his death."

Bad news for the women claiming to be Michael Jackson's secret wives -- MJ's estate just filed legal papers declaring the King of Pop had no official queen when he kicked the bucket.

In the documents, filed today in L.A. County Superior Court, Jackson's lawyers state once and for all, "Michael Joseph Jackson did not have a surviving spouse. He was not married at the time of his death."

It's no coincidence the docs were filed now -- next week there are two separate hearings about "spousal property" -- presumably filed by women claiming to be Michael Jackson's widow.

MICHAEL JACKSON's father is preparing to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the King of Pop's personal physician, DR. CONRAD MURRAY, amid allegations he administered the drugs that ultimately killed his son.
Murray has pleaded not guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter after Los Angeles prosecutors charged him with administering the powerful anaesthetic Propofol to Jackson minutes before the singer went into cardiac arrest last June (09) and died.
Joe Jackson wants Murray held to account for medical malpractice and he has instructed his lawyer Brian Oxman to begin proceedings to file the wrongful death claims in Los Angeles County Superior Court next week (begs29Mar10).
Oxman tells TMZ.com the Jackson family patriarch is seeking an unspecified amount of punitive damages, economic support, loss of companionship and loss of consortium.
Joe will be the only Jackson named as plaintiff, unless Oxman is contacted by other interested family members.
However, the notice of the legal action has angered Murray's lawyer Ed Chernoff, who is confident any such claim will not be awarded.

A Broadway musical based on MICHAEL JACKSON's hit THRILLER could still go ahead despite the singer's death - producers of the show are pushing the executors of his estate to give the project the green light.

Bosses at Nederlander Presentations allegedly entered into a contract with Jackson to produce a stage show featuring the superstar's hits before he died last June (09).

In 2008, the owner of the firm, theatre impresario James Nederlander, revealed plans to take the ambitious new stage show to New York, and his organisation completed its purchase of the video's stage rights last year (09).

Work on the production was halted in early 2009, when John Landis, who directed the 14-minute Thriller promo, sued Jackson over cash he was allegedly still owed for the video, accusing the late star of "fraudulent, malicious and oppressive conduct". That lawsuit is still pending.

The Broadway project was planned to start in 2011, and now bosses of the organisation are asking for a judge to order the executors of Jackson's estate to honour the contract and let the musical go ahead.

But Jackson's estate lawyer Howard Weitzman is set to argue against Nederlander's claim, telling TMZ.com, "I've seen their creditor's claim. I don't agree with their request."

Lawyers for DR. CONRAD MURRAY have accused authorities in Los Angeles of impeding their defence ahead of his trial over the death of MICHAEL JACKSON - by allegedly withholding crucial documents.

The medic pleaded not guilty to a count of involuntary manslaughter in L.A. last month (08Feb10). He stands accused of administering the powerful anaesthetic Propofol which killed the King of Pop in June (09), and he is due to back in court on 5 April (10), when a date for the pre-trial preliminary hearing will be set.

But the physician's lawyers are fuming after bosses at the L.A. County District Attorney's Office allegedly failed to hand over vital paperwork needed to help prepared Murray's defence.

A representative for Murray's lawyer, Ed Chernoff, claims officials have been "slow" in turning over documents which could be crucial to Murray's case.

The spokesperson tells TMZ.com, "We remain confused by how suspiciously slow the D.A. has been in turning over the documents. (We) have not received anywhere near all of it."

A rep for the D.A.'s Office is adamant Murray's lawyers will receive everything they need when the reports have been properly processed: "The District Attorney's office is turning them over as soon as they are copied and catalogued. There is a huge number of documents and the process takes time."

The executors of MICHAEL JACKSON's estate are set to make pop history by signing a staggering $200 million (£133 million) contract with the late superstar's record company, according to a new report.

Estate administrators are close to signing a deal with Sony Music Entertainment - the King of Pop's label - to produce 10 money-spinning projects over the next seven years, reports the Associated Press (AP).

The deal announcement is reportedly set for Tuesday (16Mar10), and in the planned statement obtained by the AP, estate administrator John Branca confirms the agreement will break "all previous industry benchmarks".

The statement reads, "During his life, Michael's contracts set the standard for the industry. By all objective criteria, this agreement with Sony Music demonstrates the lasting power of Michael's music by exceeding all previous industry benchmarks."

The 10-project deal includes the already released This Is It movie soundtrack.

According to TMZ.com, an album containing previously unheard music by Jackson will be released in November (10), and there is sufficient new material to fill three records.

The reports suggest that $200 million (£133 million) is the guaranteed sum Jackson's estate can expect to make in revenue, with suggestions the figure could reach $250 million (£166 million) with merchandise and touring deals.

The inside of Michael Jackson's creepy lair was revealed for the first time yesterday. A shocking video shows a secret room behind a trapdoor at Jackson's California mansion - where he apparently entertained kids who slept over. The chamber is concealed so well that it may have been missed by police who scoured the oddball entertainer's sprawling home for 14 hours Tuesday. The bombshell video, aired on TV's "Extra," revealed a door hidden behind clothes at the back of a walk-in closet in Jackson's bedroom suite. In the tape, which was shot 10 years ago, the door opens to a narrow carpeted stairwell lined with rag dolls and descends into the 8-by-7-foot secret chamber. The 45-year-old's covert cubbyhole is a twisted version of a child's bedroom.

A bed is adorned with pillow cases imprinted with Peter Pan's face and the word Neverland. Sitting on the bed is a red-headed, bug-eyed stuffed doll, and on a nightstand next to the bed is a Mickey Mouse telephone. Also next to the bed is a square console that appears to be either a radio or some sort of control terminal. On the walls are framed pictures of smiling diapered babies, which the TV show said were not Jackson's children. To get to the hideaway, his young visitors had to pass through Jackson's main bedroom suite, which has an oversized red velvet and gold throne and four-poster bed. The 10-foot-long walk-in closet that hides the secret entrance is packed with military-style costumes, children's toys and books and a prominently displayed picture of "Home Alone" actor Macaulay Culkin.

Culkin, who was befriended by Jackson during his days as a child star, apparently penned a note on the photo, reading, "Don't leave me alone in the house." "Extra" did not say who gave them the tape - shot in 1994. Jackson did not reveal the hidden room to British documentary filmmaker Martin Bashir, who interviewed the singer extensively earlier this year and toured much of the 2,600-acre Santa Barbara ranch. But the billionaire superstar admitted to Bashir that he invited children to share his bed. "I have slept in bed with many children," Jackson told Bashir. "It's very right. Being a soft Pisces in the corporate area is a blessing for Michael as long as his resources are used to promote the future and none of the 875 religious institutions (and growing) plaguing this great country. Aries rules danger, fire and the head. Why are people surprised when musicians prove to be worth more dead than alive?

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal by Ethan Smith, “Months after his death, Michael Jackson set a music-industry record, thanks to a deal between his estate and Sony Corp. valued at as much as $250 million, according to people familiar with the terms.”

The pact, which involves the release of 10 albums over seven years, guarantees the estate at least $200 million. Those releases will feature a mix of previously unreleased songs and new packages of familiar tracks.

Just last week, Jimi Hendrix released a “new” album, “Valleys of Neptune,” containing previously unreleased versions of old songs, and numbers from the vault that hadn’t before gotten an official release.

Also last week, a new Broadway show was announced titled “Unchain My Heart: The Ray Charles Musical,” that will be a showcase for the music of Charles, and last month the late Johnny Cash released another in his series of albums for American Recordings.

Kurt Cobain appears in the video game “Guitar Hero 5,” and all four of the Beatles appear in “Beatles: Rock Band” although two of them are dead.

At the beginning of the rock and roll era, many saw such pop music as disposable. But now, decades later, we’re seeing that the best artists–Bob Marley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson and the like–have made music that is unbounded by decades and trends and has a rich life beyond the lives of the artists that created the work in the first place.

Great pop music may turn out to be more like fine art, increasing in value over time. And, increasingly, there seem to be new uses for great songs–in videogames, samples, remixes, ringtones, jukebox musicals, apps, and other ways that songwriters today have yet to imagine.

Michael Jackson, in life, demonstrated his belief in the value in songs when he purchased the company that held the rights to the Beatles’ music publishing. Now Jackson, in death, is teaching the recording industry a similar lesson about the value of music.

Music Company Signs $250 Million Album Deal With Jackson Estate

Months after his death, Michael Jackson set a music-industry record, thanks to a deal between his estate and Sony Corp. valued at as much as $250 million, according to people familiar with the terms.

The deal—touted by both Sony and Mr. Jackson's estate as the most lucrative recording contract ever— guarantees the estate at least $200 million. With 10 albums over seven years, the deal will involve a mix of previously unreleased songs and new packages of familiar ones.

The dollar amount is especially striking against the backdrop of the music industry as a whole, in which U.S. album sales have plunged 52% in a decade. Superstar deals worth tens of millions of dollars per album were rare even at the peak of the CD-sales boom in the late 1990s. Yet it also underscores that the biggest acts are becoming even more essential to record labels, as individual fans purchase fewer albums each year.

Since Mr. Jackson's death on June 25, Sony has sold an estimated 31 million of his albums globally. By the first anniversary of his death, his estate expects to have earned $250 million from sales of music, merchandise and tickets to the posthumous concert film "This Is It."

The advances being paid by Sony are to be offset by sales of albums as well as revenue generated by licensing Mr. Jackson's music for uses like videogames, movies and theatrical performances. But unlike the megadeals struck in recent years by concert promoter Live Nation Entertainment Inc. with pop stars Jay-Z and Madonna, the Jackson deal doesn't give Sony income from other parts of the late singer's business, such as merchandise sales or fees for licensing his name and likeness.

In an interview, Rob Stringer, chairman of Sony Music Entertainment's Columbia/Epic Label Group, said that his company was confident it would more than recoup its hefty investment, which he characterized as more than just a record deal.

"We see it as a partnership," Mr. Stringer said.

The deal should give Mr. Jackson's heirs plenty of breathing room with respect to the crushing debt load he had built up in his final years. With his album sales dwindling and concert touring ground to a halt, Mr. Jackson borrowed heavily to finance his lavish lifestyle

The estate is likely to pay off about $125 million in debt by the end of this year, including $35 million owed to AEG Live, the promoter that was to stage a series of concerts by Mr. Jackson in London. The estate is likely to refinance another $325 million backed by Mr. Jackson's two biggest assets: Sony/ATV Music Publishing, his venture with Sony that owns copyrights to 251 Beatles songs; and his 2,600-acre Neverland Valley Ranch outside Santa Barbara, Calif.

A $300 million loan backed by Sony/ATV and held by Barclays PLC matures at the end of the year, and before Mr. Jackson's death it loomed as a major financial challenge.

In striking the deal, Sony is betting that the appetite for Mr. Jackson's music will prove more than just a spike generated by his unexpected death and the ensuing round-the-clock coverage. A record contract struck in the early 1980s gave Mr. Jackson ownership of his recordings. Sony had the right to distribute those recordings through 2015. The new deal extends that right until 2017, and adds the rights to material recorded since then.

The new deal, like the one from the 1980s, was negotiated by John Branca, Mr. Jackson's long-time lawyer and now an administrator of the estate.

The deal retroactively covers the soundtrack album to "This Is It," plus a range of other releases, some of which have been mapped out, with others to be determined later. An album of previously unreleased songs is likely to hit stores before the end of this year, and another collection is due out later. The deal is also likely to cover expanded reissues of Mr. Jackson's albums "Off the Wall" and "Bad," as well as collections of remixes. A DVD of all of Mr. Jackson's music videos is likely to be created at some point.

Speculation has circulated that Cirque du Soleil would create a Las Vegas show based on Mr. Jackson's music, as it already has done with Beatles' music. If it does, a soundtrack album of some kind would likely be part of the deal.

The estate could probably wipe out the debts entirely by selling its half of Sony/ATV, although such a drastic step is viewed as unlikely now that Mr. Jackson's posthumous business is generating so much cash.

Mr. Jackson acquired ATV for $47.5 million in 1985. Sony in 1995 paid $150 million to become a 50% partner in the venture. Mr. Jackson's half is now valued at at least $1 billion.

Head-Spinning Recording Deals

1996: R.E.M. signs $80 million, five-album deal with Warner Music.

2001: EMI inks $100 million, five-album deal with Mariah Carey. In 2002 EMI paid her $28 million to get out of the contract, after just one album.

2002: EMI reaches pact with British pop singer Robbie Williams, said to be valued at as much as $100 million, to get a cut of touring, publishing and merchandising revenue.

2005: Sony Music strikes deal with Bruce Springsteen worth at least $100 million. The costly move contributes to the ouster of then-CEO Andrew Lack.

2007: Live Nation strikes 10-year, $120 million deal to represent Madonna in nearly every aspect of her professional life, including sale of recorded music and licensing of her image.

2008: Live Nation signs $150 million, 10-year deal with Jay-Z. Similar to the contract with Madonna, it gave the company a percentage of future revenue from across his business.

2010: Sony and Michael Jackson's estate agree to a $250 million deal for 10 albums over seven years.

Michael Jackson's gravesite is no longer guarded exclusively, according to RadarOnline.

The Jacksons a month ago pulled their own security guard from sentinel watch at his Forest Lawn tombsite. They arranged for Forest Lawn security to monitor the site for up to 12 hours a day, according to the website.

But Forest Lawn Memorial Park has decided to re-assign its manpower and the site is no longer exclusively watched. Jackson's body lies in the Holly Terrace section of the Great Mausoleum.

The gravesite is restricted to 12-15 visitors. Others wishing to pay their respects must clear with the plush cemetery chain's Glendale head office.

Jackson died suddenly last year of a heart attack linked to intoxication with an anaesthetic. His death was ruled a homicide and his personal physician, Conrad Murray, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the case

In an exclusive interview with "Good Morning America," Mike Garcia, Bill Whitfield and Javon "BJ" Beard spoke out about Jackson's secretive life, describing some moments as just plain "sad."

For instance, when Jackson held a birthday party for one of his children, only Jackson, the teacher, the nanny and the three bodyguards would attend, the men said. No other children were there.

Each year, an "In Memoriam" video is played during the Oscars, paying tribute to actors, directors, writers, crew and other film personalities who have died over the past year. The 82st Annual Academy Awards ceremony aired on March 7, 2010, and paid tribute to key cinema figures who died in 2009.

Most of those that have died in the Oscar-eligible calendar year are known to industry professionals, like screenwriters and producers, while those that have been in mainstream movies, such as lead or supporting actors/actresses that receive the most recognition and vocal accolades from the viewing audience.

Actress Demi Moore opened the memorial segment with a short speech followed by James Taylor performing "In My Live". Behind him on a screen there were images of people who passed over the last year including, David Carradine, Howard Zieff, Dom DeLuise, Army Archerd, Ron Silver, Brittany Murphy, Lou Jacobi, Simon Channing- Williams, Betsy Blair, Joseph Wiseman, Kathryn Grayson, Arthur Canton, Nat Boxer (sound) Roy E. Disney, Horton Foote (writer) Budd Schulberg (writer) Michael Jackson, Natasha Richardson, and Patrick Swayze.

The presentation, which was three and half minutes long, started about two and half hours into the live Oscar event. The video montage that was shown was a collection of images from films that showcased each person who died. It was mostly somber, with reserved claps and/or cheering when the actors, directors, journalists, screenwriters and producers appeared on the screen. For the Oscar memorial video 2009, Queen Latifah sung a musical accompaniment version of the song "I'll Be Seeing You".

Although he only acted in two mainstream movies - Men In Black II and The Wiz, Michael Jackson received a moderate amount of applause, mostly due to his popularity, untimely death and contribution to the entertainment industry.

A shocking video taken in the home where Michael Jackson’s children live shows a cycle of violence that gives the children little chance at a normal lifestyle, a medical expert tells RadarOnline.com.

As a California Department of Children and Family Services investigation unfolds around events in the Encino, California home where Michael’s children live with many others, RadarOnline.com exclusively obtained video showing disturbing violence.

In the video, Jermaine’s son Jermajesty, 9, is brutally slapped in the face to the ground by his brother Jaafar, 13. This follows an incident where Jaafar reportedly ordered a stun gun and threatened Michael’s son Blanket. (Jackson family lawyers deny Blanket was threatened.)

With at least 14 people living in the Jackson house, and Jaafar at the center of two disturbing incident, one medical expert told RadarOnline.com, “Jaafar’s behavior toward his younger brother suggests he is a bully and he probably bullies the other cousins as well.”

Those are the words of Joseph S. Haraszti a California psychiatrist specializing in children and adolescents.

Haraszti believes the violence may be adversely effecting Michael’s three children and stems from a lack of guidance and disturbing family history.

“It shows a cycle of violence, knowing about the family history, when he hits brother so hard that he falls flat out, it looks like he knocks him out. There may have been violence towards him to make behave that way.” says Dr. Haraszti, who has not treated any member of the family.

“The stun gun incident shows lack of supervision. It’s premeditated intent to use it, so if he did, he shows poor judgment and it suggests internalized rage.

“I think it is pretty obvious that there are a lot of kids living in the house and because of this, there is a lack of guidance. It seems that the children are out of control. Which begs the question, where are the adults? Who is in charge?”

Katherine Jackson has legal custody of Michael’s three children. But ABCnews.com reported that as many as 14 people live in the house at any given time, including Alejandra Oaziaza, the mother of Jaafar and Jermajesty and also the mother of Randy Jackson children Genevieve, 20, and Randy Jr, 18, both of whom also live at the house.

“There are so many people living in that house and with most of the kids home schooled there is very little chance of any normal semblance of life,” Dr. Haraszti told RadarOnline.com.

March 05, 2010, (Sawf News) - One year ago today Michael Jackson announced his 'This Is It' concert run in a press conference at London's O2 arena. To mark the anniversary, Charles Thomson sat down with Jackson's long-serving guitarist Jennifer Batten, who told us what it was really like behind the scenes on a Michael Jackson tour.

Jennifer Batten... It might not ring any bells at first, but you'd probably recognize her if you saw her. She's not really a household name but she's an icon nonetheless.

Throughout the eighties and nineties she played in sold out stadiums all around the world. Her image was beamed into sitting rooms to audiences totaling several billion. Young girls everywhere wanted to be Jennifer Batten.

If you ever went to a Michael Jackson concert, watched his performances on TV or bought a ticket for Moonwalker then you'll know Jennifer Batten. She's Jackson's tall, slender, arresting guitarist, perhaps best known for her enormous mane of bright white hair.

"It was Michael's idea to have my hair turned snow white and big," Batten once said. "Often all you can see in the photos is Michael Jackson and my hair!"

Batten was Jackson's lead guitarist for a decade, accompanying the star on all three of his record-breaking world tours. At 29 years old she was plucked by the King of Pop from complete obscurity. Despite announcing to her mother at age 12 that she would become a professional guitarist, before Batten joined Jackson her touring experience was limited almost exclusively to a brief spell with an Elvis impersonator.

"We played down in American Samoa of all places," she laughs. "He had a brother that was a missionary on the island, so he set up the gig. Then we did another stint in Colorado because he had a brother there too. That was it."

Inspired by blues legends like BB King and Brownie McGee, Batten began playing guitar at the tender age of eight. As a young woman she attended the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles.

"I was the only woman with 60 guys," she says. "I didn't have a problem with it. I could go practice in the bathroom because you get the natural reverb in there and I knew I wouldn't be bothered."

Audition for Bad Tour

After the Elvis gigs she lived for several years in San Diego, playing in cover bands. But soon she grew restless so she upped sticks and moved to Los Angeles in search of success on the music scene. It wasn't long before she fell into teaching at her former school, the Musicians Institute, and it was there - on one fateful day in 1987 - that Michael Jackson's representatives called asking for musicians to attend tour auditions.

"They were auditioning about a hundred people so it was pretty intense," she recalls. "When I went, there was just a video camera, no band. The only guidance I was given was to play some funk rhythm stuff so I did that, then I finished off with the Beat It solo because I had been playing that for years in cover bands. I think ultimately that's what got me the gig."

Winning her place on Jackson's Bad Tour in 1987 changed her life, she says. "It was like a paid vacation. I had been teaching and gigging pretty much seven nights a week and all of a sudden I'm on the biggest tour in the world making ten times the money and only working two or three days a week!"

Bad Tour Rehearsal

Rehearsals began almost immediately and they were punishing; seven days a week for two solid months. For the first month the band, singers and dancers rehearsed separately. For the second they converged in a production studio, where every element of the show came together. It was here that Batten first met Michael Jackson.

"We heard that if he liked the music he'd start dancing and he did as soon as he walked through the door. We stopped and people who hadn't met him before were introduced to him. I remember seeing his manager Frank Dileo come in with the ponytail and the cigar. It was kind of surreal seeing the two of them together. I just remember Michael looked gorgeous close up. He was just beautiful.

"He was very much hands on and he was an extremely hard worker. By the end of rehearsals we were running the show a minimum of once a day, sometimes twice. I would say that's the number one thing I learned from him: the value of rehearsing that much and that intensely, because by the time we hit the stage everybody was relaxed."

Bad Tour

Opening night in Tokyo, she says, was 'very, very exciting'. "I'd never played for that many people before. On the road Michael took it up another notch. I mean, he was pretty full out at the last rehearsals anyway but that extra excitement of knowing there are people going nuts watching you... There's an extra amount of fire that you can feel onstage with everybody doing their best and trying to give 110%."

But soon after hitting the road, Batten discovered a more sinister side to working with Michael Jackson. "I was approached in the beginning by somebody who said I could make a lot of money by talking to the National Enquirer," she reveals. "I was just appalled. I thought 'that is just sick', you know? I just got this great gig. Why would I sabotage it like that? It seemed like a really evil thing to do."

Michael Jackson's Isolation

Batten grew to feel sorry for Jackson, who she says was trapped by his celebrity.

"If he wanted to go anywhere he had to alert the security and he had to really have it planned in advance. If he wanted to go to a store they would have to be called and shut it down for him. He was a prisoner of the hotel room, really."

Jackson compensated for this, she says, by treating himself and his entourage to special excursions. Sometimes he had theme parks closed to the public so that he and his team could enjoy them without being hounded.

"He did it first at the Tokyo Disneyland. That was just unbelievable. We would go on the rollercoaster rides and when we were done they would just ask us, 'Do you want to go around again?' We were very, very spoiled."

Post Bad Tour

The Bad Tour wound up in January 1989 and the group disbanded. In later years Sheryl Crow, a backing singer on the tour, would make several disparaging remarks about Jackson during interviews publicizing her own material. She said he was a diva, never bothering to learn people's names.

Batten refutes this. "I think singers in general are just nuts and ultra-sensitive. One night Michael called Sheryl 'Jennifer'," she giggles, "and I know that pissed her off. But it's like, so what? I mean, you got the biggest gig in the world and it's not like Michael was unaware of who was onstage with him. We were with him for a friggin' year and a half."

When the Bad Tour ended, Jackson retreated to the studio to begin work on the Dangerous album. Batten used this time to capitalize on the exposure that Jackson had given her, beginning work on her debut album.

The wardrobe malfunctions weren't limited to rehearsals, either. On tour Batten would appear every night wearing an enormous fibre-optic headdress. "At the end of Beat It everybody would run out on the stage," she remembers. "Invariably, I would be running at full force and somebody would step on my fibre-optic cable - it would pretty much knock my head off. That was kind of a drag."

At the end of each show, Jackson would exit the stage on a jet pack, floating over the audience's heads.

"He wanted to come out with the biggest show on earth," says Batten. "He wanted it to be like Christmas for people. His imagination was like a creative tornado. He would come up with his wildest dreams and then hire people to carry it out. It was really amazing to be a part of that."

Super Bowl performance

In January 1993 Batten accompanied Jackson for his legendary Super Bowl performance, which was watched by 1.5 billion people.

"I'll tell you, it was the only time I ever saw Michael nervous. It's live and there's only the time of a couple of potato chip commercials to get the stage out into the field. There's one scene where I'm on the corner of the stage with Michael and there's so much fog coming out that we both get lost for a second, but that's the beauty of live gigs. You never know what's going to happen. That was one of my favorite times because it was a one-off special thing that will never be repeated."

Child Molestation Allegations

After the Super Bowl there was a long break before the second leg of the Dangerous Tour. Batten got antsy and left to pursue personal projects. It was during the second leg that allegations of child abuse were leveled at Jackson.

"I figured it was an extortion case, which I still figure it is," she says matter-of-factly. "Everybody was concerned about him. I think it pains all of us that he was so attacked and so unfairly. Most artists are sensitive and he was talented times ten, so ultra sensitive, and to be slung that kind of stuff... I mean, you can hear it in his lyrics. It's a real drag because you wonder what kind of music he would have come up with if people weren't attacking him like that."

The media, says Batten, has a lot to answer for over its coverage of the 1993 allegations.

"Honestly, I think it would have been considered uncool amongst the press to take Michael's side. I think it would take a brave soul to do that, which is really sad. Really pathetic. Even at the 2005 trial... I know people who were inside the courtroom and then they would watch the news at night and it was complete lies."

HIStory Tour

The case was settled in January 1994 and Jackson began work on his HIStory album. In 1996 Batten was brought back onboard for the accompanying HIStory Tour, although she recalls that it was 'very last minute':

"I got hired a week before I was supposed to start rehearsals, which was a real scramble. It was just nuts. I had to cancel some work."

The tour brought with it more costume problems for Batten, who describes her black latex get-up as 'just dreadful'.

"That mask I had to wear was just ugh... ghastly. Somebody had shown Michael an art book that was kind of S&M based and all the paintings looked really beautiful. So he had that in mind but when it came to real life it wasn't too beautiful anymore," she laughs. "I just had to remind myself that it was all about the theatre, you know? It's not just about the music."

Indeed, the tour provoked criticism from some fans who said that there was too much emphasis on theatre and not enough on the music, with much of each concert appearing to be lip-synched.

Fans' explanations have ranged from nodules to laryngitis, but while she won't be drawn on the subject of miming, Batten says she never heard anything about Jackson suffering from any throat problems.

"In fact," she adds, "every night he'd be warming up with his vocal coach. You could hear him doing arpeggios from his dressing room."

Michael's on stage appearances with children

Batten says that initially she was alarmed by Jackson's decision to end each concert flanked on either side by young children.

"At the end of the show he would disappear down an elevator in the stage with a little boy and a little girl. At first I thought, 'God, because of the allegations you'd think he wouldn't do that'. But then I thought, 'You know what, he hasn't done anything wrong so why the hell should he change his life?' I think that was a little bit of giving a finger to his critics."

The HIStory Tour lasted into the Summer of 1997 and would mark the end of the pair's working relationship, but Batten says she never felt disappointed that he didn't bring her back.

"I would just go off and work on my own career. If he calls, great, and if he doesn't, great. It's been a great ride with him anyway."

Michael's Death

Batten says she was out driving on June 25, 2009 when an acquaintance called to tell her about rumors of Jackson's death.

"I didn't really believe it when he told me because I had heard so many rumors about Michael over the years, false alarms about everything. I thought, 'Yea, right'. I saw it was true when I got home and I had mixed feelings. I was sad but in a way I thought power to him for going to the other side, because of all the torture that had come at him. I just can't imagine living with that."

In the weeks after Jackson's death Batten says she was unable to watch the media coverage, knowing how much of it was false.

"They were respectful for about two or three hours and then they turned it into a tabloid festival," she laments.

"I just couldn't watch it. There were a lot of specials on about him and once in a while I would turn one on and it was just sh*t. I guess it makes money to just bring up negativity and stir up controversy but it's pathetic and I just can't watch it. It's all about money now, not about truth. People can be very cold."

This Is It movie

But unlike some of Jackson's friends, Batten says she was able to bring herself to watch This Is It, even if she did have mixed feelings about it.

"I hadn't seen any video of him for years and just to see his talent, even when he wasn't going full out, the way he sang Human Nature was just chilling. The way his body moves - there was just no other dancer in the world that was like that. So I enjoyed it."

But thanks to a close friendship with Jackson's make-up artist Karen Faye, who worked with the star during his This Is It rehearsals, Batten says she's able to see the other side of the coin. Since Jackson's death Faye has written on her facebook page that Jackson was frail, cold to the touch and losing weight rapidly.

"She was closer to Michael than anyone," says Batten, "She warned people that he was not well but everybody ignored her. You didn't see it on the screen because they took every day that he rehearsed and pieced together the best bits. You didn't see him when he was struggling up a ramp because he didn't have any energy and he hadn't eaten for two days. They're not going to put that in the film. I mean, one of the songs he was wearing four different costumes. That just tells me that he never sang the song fully through."

Nowadays Batten is focusing on her own career. As well as writing new music ("I'm getting into acoustic stuff, which I haven't done since I was 14") she has spent much of 2010 touring the world with her pioneering one-woman multimedia show. Last month she performed all over the UK and she's currently on the road in Japan.

"I've been doing a multimedia tour for a couple of years now where all of my tracks are cut to film," she explains. "I thought about what it would take to get a band together and the expense involved. I thought, 'Well, there's got to be a way I can do this myself'. So I came up with the idea of film. If people want to just watch my fingers then fine but it's not all that entertaining for 90 minutes.

"I had four filmmakers contribute films and that's it. One of them showed me how to do it myself and now most of the films are ones that I've made. So I've been really obsessed with that part of it as well."

When she's not overseas Batten has taken to exploring territory closer to home. "I bought a motor home so I can travel around America doing my show," she says. "I've got 40,000 miles on it already and it's kind of cool to see my own country for a change.

"I'm just taking things into my own hands and not waiting for the phone to ring. I'm having a ball!"

At the recent Grammy ceremony, Prince and Paris Jackson accepted the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of their late father Michael. And Prince’s poignant first words were, “We’d like to thank God for watching over us for these past seven months.”

It’s good that they were taught to place their trust in God, since outside of their close family it will remain hard for them to know who to trust. It’s very difficult to lose a parent at such a young age, but even more so when the world’s media is watching every move. Harder still, of course, when the death is sudden, suspicious and, even after several months, nobody is brought to account.

It has been eight months since Michael Jackson died, yet it took until February 8 before cardiologist Dr Conrad Murray was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, presumably by overdosing him with medication. He arrived in suit and sunglasses and walked in with officers, but no cuffs, which seemed considerably unjust considering the police acted swiftly in handcuffing and publicly humiliating Jackson back in 2003, sending 70-plus cars to raid his home for a crime he did not commit.

To this day, Murray has maintained his innocence, saying that he ‘gave nothing to Michael Jackson that should have led to his death’. The question is, if he didn’t, was there anyone who did?

Those who knew Jackson are well aware that for many years he had been reaching out to the few people he felt he could trust in a desperate attempt to let them know that something was amiss. Not because he was an ‘addict’, but because he knew that this is exactly how he would be portrayed should anything tragic happen. For many years, he had been saying that ‘they’ were going to kill him. When asked who, he would tell confidantes, ‘for the Beatles catalogue. They want the catalogue.’

Some feel that his naivety was his downfall. He would often hire people who were neither reliable nor trustworthy, and many abused that trust. In spite of this, even in his darkest moments, he vowed: “I will never stop helping and loving people the way Jesus said to.”

The star’s memorial at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles was recognisably Christian and saw Lionel Ritchie singing the beautiful song ‘Jesus is Love,’ containing the lyrics: ‘Jesus wants you. If you call him, he will answer.’

Unfortunately, there was no positive answer to prayer when the star’s chef, Kai Chase, prayed with his children at the bottom of the stairs on that fateful day. “We united and formed a circle, held hands and we started praying,” Chase said. “It was myself and the children, nanny and housekeepers and we were crying frantically because we didn’t know what was going on. Paramedics were upstairs, security was upstairs and we were just praying ‘God, please let Mr Jackson be OK.’ ”

Jackson’s children joined her in prayer, she said. “They were praying, they were crying and we were praying out loud. Prince joined in prayer, and Paris, she’s crying and saying ‘Yes, father, God. Yes, Jesus.” Jackson had not just brought the children up to be well mannered, sharing toys and saying grace before every meal, but he had also taught them how to pray in a crisis.

Time only will tell whether the faith instilled in them by their father will suffice as the trial of Conrad Murray begins later this year.

Meanwhile there are so many questions in relation to this case, some of which might never be answered if Murray alone remains the focus. What happened to the CCTV tapes from the house on that fateful night? Why was the will ‘signed’ in Los Angeles when Jackson was actually in New York City on that date? Most importantly, how could it be that Jackson had died four hours before the 911 call was made?

I believe there are far more people involved than Dr Murray. Reports have shown him to be incompetent and clumsy with his personal life. But is he a killer, a ridiculously incompetent doctor or a credible fall guy?

Sources say he could avoid a trial by plea bargaining a deal to a suspended sentence with a guilty admission, but what message would this send out to other doctors?

The most tragic thing of all is that, in spite of being one of the few stars who genuinely reached out to people and was committed to helping ‘heal the world’, both through his songs and his humanitarian work, Michael Jackson was persecuted and ridiculed for much of his adult life. It is difficult enough coping with the trials and tribulations of being a celebrity, but the little boy from Indiana turned worldwide superstar could, in the eyes of the media, do nothing right.

The fact is, Jackson was a human being crying out for love, understanding and acceptance in a world which reveres immorality and the darker side of human nature. Throughout it all, he never forgot where he came from and his faith sustained him through exceptionally difficult trials.

But we can’t simply blame the media for Jackson’s death, for how many believed the tabloids, how many sought to turn a blind eye to his good works whilst applauding stars that revel in immorality, lust and self-glorification? Most importantly, how many of us saw this man suffering and yet failed to pray for him.

As Prince Jackson thanks God for watching over himself and his siblings, we too must be thankful that outside this world of injustice and pain, we, like Jackson, have a God on whom we can rely to be there for us in our darkest moments and our deepest despair.

Jermaine Jackson has admitted his teenage son purchased a “little thing” on the internet, saying it was meant as a gift for him.

It has been claimed 13-year-old Jaafar recently purchased a stun gun on the internet, and had to be stopped from using the immobilising device on Blanket. While Jermaine admits Jaafar did buy something online, he stopped short of calling the item a stun gun and played down claims it was ever fired at the family’s home in Encino, Los Angeles.

“No, that was not true, there was no accident. That was my son, he was getting this little thing for me and somehow someone alerted the press and it all got out of hand,” Jermaine said in an interview with Dutch television’s rt4. “There was no encounter with Blanket or anything, it was just a lot of talk but my son feels very, very bad because he had told me he was going to get me something online before we left to come out here and somehow it just got out of hand.”

Michael Jackson’s three children Prince Michael, 12, 11-year-old Paris and Blanket have been cared for by his mother Katherine since his death last year. They live at the Encino house along with Jaafar and his siblings Jermajesty, Genevieve and Randall, and their mother, and another young person the family looks after.

Katherine’s attorney Adam Streisand has also rubbished the claims, insisting that although Michael’s kids were in the room when Jaafar unwrapped the parcel it was immediately confiscated by security guards.

Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services officers visited the Jackson family home in Encino on Monday night at approximately 10.30pm, spending six and a half hours interviewing staff about the stun gun incident. They are reportedly trying to control the access the children living in the residence have to the internet to avoid similar things happening in the future.

A controversial re-enactment of Michael Jackson's death has been shown on US television.

VH1 show Famous Crime Scene used an uncanny Jacko lookalike for their chilling 30-minute programme, which aired on Friday night.

The re-enactment showed the doppelganger being given CPR - first on his bed and then on the floor - by an actor playing the singer's alleged killer Dr Conrad Murray

The most shocking scenes, however, featured the lookalike lying naked on an post mortem table, covered by nothing but a towel, and being pushed slowly into a mortuary drawer.

VH1's show used a mixture of actors, journalists and magazine and website editors to put together its version of the events surrounding Jacko's death.

But, confusingly, it also featured interviews with actual members of the Los Angeles Fire Department who were involved in the events of June 25 last year and paparazzi footage from outside the hospital and the singer's home.

As the lookalikes re-enacted the moment Jackson slipped into unconsciousness, the real-life 911 call was played over the top of the images.

'We got a call 12.21pm,' Captain Stephen Ruda, from the Los Angeles Fire Department recalled.

'There was no identification by the caller of who he was or who was having the medical issues. But we knew that someone was in dire, dire straits.

'At 12.25 we were on scene. Firefighters were led in and led to the room where the patient was located.

to think back to her statement after the death of Michael Jackson in June of 2009.

On some level, it would seem that the Jackson family and the Osmond family would have little in common. While Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 were known for dance and R&B, Marie Osmond and the Osmond family were known to be a "little bit country and a little bit rock and roll". And, one presumes, there is little crossover in the Jackson and Osmond fan bases.

And yet, both the Jacksons and the Osmonds were closely linked as powerful pop star family acts in the 1970's.

After Michael Jackson's death, Marie Osmond gave a moving and heartfelt statement about the King of Pop.

Osmond said, "I think what touched me the most about Michael's funeral was when his daughter stepped forward and said that he was such a good daddy," Marie says. "The saddest thing to me is that the people that I grew up with in this business, the people that I love, they're gone. I know what loss is, I know what that means to lose your parents. To lose him so young I know is going to be very hard for those kids. So hopefully they have that support that they need to get through this difficult time."

Recognizing the unique challenge that the Jackson kids face, Osmond also said, "Speaking as a mother...I have eight kids...it's very different to be the child of a celebrity than it is to be a child celebrity".

As the tragic deaths of both Michael Jackson as well as Michael Blosil demonstrate, the phenomenon of celebrity is certainly not an antidote to the challenges of every day life. While the potential negative impact of being born into a celebrity family is debatable, the words of Marie Osmond on Michael Jackson's death and his kids take on an almost surreal feeling tonight.

After the eminent American writer was given a rare tour of Michael Jackson's fabled ranch, the singer telephoned him in the early hours for a chat. Here, Paul Theroux recalls an unguarded conversation that touched on fame, childhood and Biblical betrayal.

I heard the news today, oh boy, that Michael Jackson had a heart attack – and died of cardiac arrest, at the age of 50, in Los Angeles. I am reminded of a long conversation I had with him at four o'clock one morning, and of my visit to Neverland. The visit came first, the conversation a few weeks later, on the phone.

Neverland, a toytown wilderness of carnival rides and doll houses and zoo animals and pleasure gardens, lay inside a magnificent gateway on a side road in a rural area beyond Santa Barbara. Nosing around, I saw pinned to the wall of the sentry post an array of strange faces, some of them mugshots, all of them undesirables, with names and captions such as "Believes she is married to Mr Jackson" and "Might be armed" and "Has been loitering near gate".

A road lined with life-sized bronzed statuary – skipping boys, gamboling animals – led past an artificial lake and a narrow-gauge railway to Michael's house. Neverland occupied an entire 3,000-acre valley, yet very little of it was devoted to human habitation – just the main house with its dark shingles and mullioned windows, and a three-bedroom guesthouse. The rest was given over to a railway terminus, Katharine Station, named after Jackson's mother, a formidable security headquarters, various funhouses, a cinema (with windowed bedrooms instead of balcony seats), and almost indefinable sites, one with teepees like an Indian camp.

And sprawling over many acres, the Jackson zoo of bad-tempered animals. The giraffes were understandably skittish. In another enclosure, rocking on its thick legs, was Gypsy, a moody five-ton elephant, which Elizabeth Taylor had given as a present to Michael. The elephant seemed to be afflicted with the rage of heightened musth. "Don't go anywhere near him," the keeper warned me.

In the reptile house, with its frisbee-shaped frogs and fat pythons, both a cobra and a rattlesnake had smashed their fangs against the glass of their cage trying to bite me. The llamas spat at me, as llamas do, but even in the ape sanctuary, "AJ", a big bristly, shovel-mouthed chimp, had spat in my face, and Patrick the orang-utan had tried to twist my hand. "And don't go anywhere near him, either."

In the wider part of the valley, the empty fairground rides were active – twinkling, musical – but empty: Sea Dragon, the Neverland Dodgem cars, the Neverland carrousel playing Michael's own song, Childhood ("Has anyone seen my childhood?…"). Even the lawns and flower beds were playing music; loudspeakers disguised as big, grey rocks buzzed with showtunes, filling the valley with unstoppable Muzak that drowned the chirping of wild birds. In the middle of it, a Jumbotron, its screen the size of a drive-in movie, showed a cartoon, two crazy-faced creatures quacking miserably at each other – all of this very bright in the cloudless California dusk, not a soul watching.

Later that day, I boarded a helicopter with Elizabeth Taylor – I was at Neverland interviewing her – and flew over the valley. It says something for Miss Taylor's much-criticised voice that I could hear her clearly over the helicopter noise. Girlish, imploring, piercing, the loud yack-yack-yack of the titanium rotor blades, she clutched her dog, a Maltese named Sugar, and screamed: "Paul, tell the pilot to go around in a circle, so we can see the whole ranch!"

Even without my relaying the message – even with his ears muffled by headphones – her voice knifed through to the pilot. He lifted us high enough into the peach-coloured sunset so that Neverland seemed even more toy-like.

"That's the gazebo, where Larry [Fortensky, her seventh husband] and I tied the knot," Elizabeth said, moving her head in an ironising wobble. Sugar blinked through prettily-combed white bangs which somewhat resembled Elizabeth's own white hair. "Isn't the railway station darling? Over there is where Michael and I have picnics," and she indicated a clump of woods on a cliff. "Can we go around one more time?"

Neverland Valley revolved slowly beneath us, the shadows lengthening from the pinky-gold glow slipping from the sky.

Even though no rain had fallen for months, the acres of lawns watered by underground sprinklers were deep green. Here and there, like toy soldiers, uniformed security people patrolled on foot, or on golf carts; some stood sentry duty – for Neverland was also a fortress.

"What's that railway station for?" I asked.

"The sick children."

"And all those rides?"

"The sick children."

"Look at all those tents…" Hidden in the woods, it was my first glimpse at the collection of tall teepees.

"The Indian village. The sick children love that place."

From this height, I could see that this valley of laboriously recaptured childhood pleasure was crammed with more statuary than I'd seen from ground level. Lining the gravel roads and the golf-cart paths were little winsome bronzes of flute players, rows of grateful, grinning kiddies, clusters of hand-holding tots, some with banjos, some with fishing rods; and large bronze statues, too, like the centrepiece of the circular drive in front of Michael's house, a statue of Mercury (god of merchandise and merchants), rising 30 feet, with winged helmet and caduceus, and all balanced on one tippy-toe, the last of the syrupy sunset lingering on his big bronze buttocks, making his bum look like a buttered muffin.

The house at Neverland was filled with images, many of them depicting Michael life-sized, elaborately costumed, in heroic poses with cape, sword, ruffed collar, crown. The rest were an example of a sort of obsessive iconography: images of Elizabeth Taylor, Diana Ross, Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin – and for that matter of Mickey Mouse and Peter Pan, all of whom, over the years, in what is less a life than a metamorphosis, he had come physically to resemble.

"So you're Wendy and Michael is Peter?" I had asked Elizabeth Taylor afterwards.

"Yeah. Yeah. There's a kind of magic between us."

The friendship started when, out of the blue, Michael offered her tickets for one of his Thriller Tour concerts – indeed, she asked for 14 tickets. But the seats were in a glass-enclosed VIP box, so far from the stage "you might as well have been watching it on TV". Instead of staying, she led her large party home.

Hearing that she'd left the concert early, Michael called the next day in tears apologising for the bad seats. He stayed on the line, they talked for two hours. And then they talked every day. Weeks passed, the calls continued. Months went by. "Really, we got to know each other on the telephone, over three months."

One day Michael suggested that he might drop by. Elizabeth said fine. He said: "May I bring my chimpanzee?" Elizabeth said, "Sure. I love animals." Michael showed up holding hands with the chimp, Bubbles.

"We have been steadfast ever since," Elizabeth said.

"Do you see much of Michael?"

"More of him than people realise – more than I realise," she said. They went in disguise to movies in Los Angeles cinemas, sitting in the back, holding hands. Before I could frame a more particular question, she said: "I love him. There's a vulnerability inside him which makes him the more dear. We have such fun together. Just playing."

Or role-playing – her Wendy to his Peter. In the hallway of her house, a large Michael Jackson portrait was inscribed "To my True Love Elizabeth. I'll love you Forever, Michael".

She gave him a live elephant. Dr Arnie Klein, his dermatologist, showed me a birthday snapshot taken in Las Vegas, Michael looking distinctly chalky as he presented Elizabeth with a birthday present, an elephant-shaped bauble, football-sized, covered in jewels.

What began as a friendship with Michael Jackson developed into a kind of cause in which Elizabeth Taylor became almost his only defender.

"What about his" – and I fished for a word – "eccentricity? Does that bother you?"

"He is magic. And I think all truly magical people have to have that genuine eccentricity." There is not an atom in her consciousness that allows her the slightest negativity on the subject of Jacko. "He is one of the most loving, sweet, true people I have ever loved. He is part of my heart. And we would do anything for each other."

This Wendy with a vengeance, who was a wealthy and world-famous pre-adolescent, supporting her parents from the age of nine, said she easily related to Michael, who was also a child star, and denied a childhood, as well as viciously abused by his father. There was a "Katherine" steam engine, and a "Katherine Street" at Neverland; there was no "Joseph Street", nor anything bearing his father's name.

'He'll talk to you if I ask him to," Elizabeth had told me. And at a prearranged signal, Michael called me, at four one morning. There was no secretarial intervention of "Mr Jackson on the line". The week's supermarket tabloids' headlines were "Jacko on suicide watch" and "Jacko in loony bin", and one with a South Africa dateline, "Wacko Jacko King of Pop Parasails with 13-year-old". In fact, he was in New York City, where he was recording a new album. This was 10 years ago.

My phone rang and I heard: "This is Michael Jackson." The voice was breathy, unbroken, boyish – tentative, yet tremulously eager and helpful, not the voice of a 40-year-old. In contrast to this lilting sound, its substance was denser, like a blind child giving you explicit directions in darkness.

"How would you describe Elizabeth?" I asked.

"She's a warm cuddly blanket that I love to snuggle up to and cover myself with. I can confide in her and trust her. In my business, you can't trust anyone."

"Why is that?"

"Because you don't know who's your friend. Because you're so popular, and there's so many people around you. You're isolated, too. Becoming successful means that you become a prisoner. You can't go out and do normal things. People are always looking at what you're doing."

"Have you had that experience?"

"Oh, lots of times. They try to see what you're reading, and all the things you're buying. They want to know everything. There are always paparazzi downstairs. They invade my privacy. They twist reality. They're my nightmare. Elizabeth is someone who loves me – really loves me."

"I suggested to her that she was Wendy and you're Peter."

"But Elizabeth is also like a mother – and more than that. She's a friend. She's Mother Teresa, Princess Diana, the Queen of England and Wendy. We have great picnics. It's so wonderful to be with her. I can really relax with her, because we've lived the same life and experienced the same thing."

"Which is?"

"The great tragedy of childhood stars. We like the same things. Circuses. Amusement parks. Animals."

And there was their shared fame and isolation.

"It makes people do strange things. A lot of our famous luminaries become intoxicated because of it – they can't handle it. And your adrenaline is at the zenith of the universe after a concert – you can't sleep. It's maybe two in the morning and you're wide awake. After coming off stage, you're floating."

"How do you handle that?"

"I watch cartoons. I love cartoons. I play video games. Sometimes I read."

"You mean you read books?"

"Yeah. I love to read short stories and everything."

"Any in particular?"

"Somerset Maugham," he said quickly, and then, pausing at each name: "Whitman. Hemingway. Twain."

"What about those video games?"

"I love X-Man. Pinball. Jurassic Park. The martial arts ones – Mortal Kombat."

"I played some of the video games at Neverland," I said. "There was an amazing one called Beast Buster."

"Oh, yeah, that's great. I pick each game. That one's maybe too violent, though. I usually take some with me on tour."

"How do you manage that? The video game machines are pretty big, aren't they?"

"Oh, we travel with two cargo planes."

"Have you written any songs with Elizabeth in mind?"

"Childhood."

"Is that the one with the line, 'Has anyone seen my childhood?'"

"Yes. It goes…", and he liltingly recited "Before you judge me, try to…", and then sang the rest.

"Didn't I hear that playing on your merry-go-round at Neverland?"

Delightedly, he said, "Yes! Yes!"

He went on about childhood, how, like Elizabeth, as a child star he used to support his family.

"I was a child supporting my family. My father took the money. Some of the money was put aside for me, but a lot of the money was put back into the entire family. I was just working the whole time."

"So you didn't have a childhood, then – you lost it. If you had it to do again how would you change things?"

"Even though I missed out on a lot, I wouldn't change anything."

"I can hear your little kids in the background." The gurgling had become insistent, like a plug-hole in a flood. "If they wanted to be performers and lead the life you led, what would you say?"

"They can do whatever they want to do. If they want to do that, it's okay."

"How will you raise them differently from the way you were raised?"

"With more fun. More love. Not so isolated."

"Elizabeth says she finds it painful to look back on her life. Do you find it hard to do that?"

"No, not when it's pertaining to an overview of your life rather than any particular moment."

This oblique and somewhat bookish form of expression was a surprise to me – another Michael Jackson surprise. He had made me pause with "intoxicated" and "zenith of the universe", too. I said: "I'm not too sure what you mean by 'overview'."

"Like childhood. I can look at that. The arc of my childhood."

"But there's some moment in childhood when you feel particularly vulnerable. Did you feel that? Elizabeth said that she felt she was owned by the studio."

"Sometimes really late at night we'd have to go out – it might be three in the morning – to do a show. My father forced us. He would get us up. I was seven or eight. Some of these were clubs or private parties at people's houses. We'd have to perform." This was in Chicago, New York, Indiana, Philadelphia, he added – all over the country. "I'd be sleeping and I'd hear my father. 'Get up! There's a show!' "

"But when you were on stage, didn't you get a kind of thrill?"

"Yes. I loved being on stage. I loved doing the shows."

"What about the other side of the business – if someone came up after the show, did you feel awkward?"

"I didn't like it. I've never liked people-contact. Even to this day, after a show, I hate it, meeting people. It makes me shy. I don't know what to say."

"But you did that Oprah interview, right?

"With Oprah it was tough. Because it was on TV – on TV, it's out of my realm. I know that everyone is looking and judging. It's so hard."

"Is this a recent feeling – that you're under scrutiny?"

"No," he said firmly, "I have always felt that way."

"Even when you were seven or eight?"

"I'm not happy doing it."

"Which I suppose is why talking to Elizabeth over a period of two or three months on the phone would be the perfect way to get acquainted. Or doing what we're doing right now."

"Yes."

At some point Michael's use of the phrase "lost childhood" prompted me to quote the line from George William Russell, "In the lost boyhood of Judas / Christ was betrayed", and I heard "Wow" at the other end of the line. He asked me to explain what that meant, and when I did, he urged me to elaborate. What sort of a childhood did Judas have? What had happened to him? Where had he lived? Who had he known?

I told him that Judas had red hair, that he was the treasurer of the Apostles, that he might have been Sicarii – a member of a radical Jewish group, that he might not have died by hanging himself but somehow exploded, all his guts flying.

Twenty more minutes of Biblical apocrypha with Michael Jackson, on the lost childhood of Judas, and then the whisper again.

Adding a surprising twist to the Michael Jackson homicide investigation Dr. Conrad Murray’s attorney Michael Flanagan tells RadarOnline.com exclusively that his client made a mistake when he was initially interviewed by the LAPD following Michael Jackson’s death in June 2009.

"Dr. Murray's timeline of events that day when Michael Jackson died is wrong,” Flanagan says. “Doctors make mistakes, and that is what he did, and it was simply just that, a mistake.”

Dr. Murray changing the story that he initially told police in the aftermath of Jackson’s death is a significant event for both the prosecution and the defense.

According to police reports Dr. Murray initially told the LAPD that he administered the powerful sedative Propofol to Jackson at 10.50am, and that he then left Jackson alone for two minutes to go to the bathroom. Murray then went on to say that when he returned to Jackson’s room he wasn’t breathing and this is when he began CPR.

However, the 911 call wasn’t actually made until 12.21 pm, considerably after Murray stated that he had discovered Jackson in distress and started CPR. In addition, a voicemail message was released Monday that Murray reportedly made at 11.54 am to another patient of his, Bob Russell. In the voicemail Murray sounds calm and collected as he informs his patient about the results of a heart scan. That’s a situation that seems incredible if Murray had in fact been performing CPR on Jackson for approximately an hour before the call.

But now Flanagan says that Murray was wrong about the timing of events. He would not, however, get more specific about when Murray found Jackson in distress.

The timeline of events surrounding the death of Jackson will most likely be central to the criminal case against Dr. Murray. Some reports say that both the defense and the prosecution plan to use the newly surfaced voicemail as a centerpiece to their case. Murray’s legal team aims to discredit cops' initial interviews with their client in a bid to convince a jury that they bungled the situation, according to some sources.

But Flanagan, who still hasn't received formal discovery from the prosecutors, and hasn't heard the official voicemail message that Dr. Murray left for Bob Russell, says that he believes his client simply made a mistake when it came to the timeline that fateful day. "Dr. Murray's timeline was wrong," he told RadarOnline.com, adding that he also believes there is another phone call that has not been uncovered. And that other voicemail is reportedly a phone call between Murray and his girlfriend in Houston, shortly after noon. 911 was called at 12:21.

So if Murray did administer Propofol to Jackson at 10:50 am as he initially told police, it would be natural for cops to assume he did not come back and check on Jackson until several minutes after mid-day, when he rushed off the phone to go to Jackson’s aide. That would mean he most likely left Jackson alone for approximately 73 minutes – not two minutes as he claimed -- after administering Propofol, which would be extremely damaging to his defense. Murray’s calm phone call to a patient at 11:54 am would fit a police theory that he did not check on Jackson after administering Propofol.

Now, with Flanagan saying Murray was wrong about the timeline, it favorably (for Murray) explains why he was calm during the call to his patient and does not make it look like the doctor left Jackson alone for a long time after administering Propofol.

A recording of the moment paramedics first announced Michael Jackson's death has been found online.

The voice on the tape - which is believed to feature a Los Angeles Fire Department medical calling ahead to the UCLA Hospital in Santa Monica - could even be used as new evidence in the trial against the star's personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

The voice is heard saying: "Patient is Michael Jackson, the pop star singer. No pulse, no breathing. Unresponsive. Tried to resuscitate him. Unsuccessful. We've done everything we can. We should be there in five minutes. It doesn't look good. It doesn't look good."

If the recording is genuine then it would be crucial to the trial into Michael's death because it contradicts the timeline of events previously stated by Dr. Murray who said the 50-year-old music legend still had a pulse and was warm when he put him in the ambulance.

If the tape is used, prosecutors would argue Dr. Murray, 56, actually left Michael for more than an hour after giving him the powerful sedative Propofol, making his actions careless.

The tape, which emerged on the ambulance workers' web forum, is thought to be the first time the announcement was made that Michael was dead on June 25 last year, although authorities do not yet know whether it is genuine.

An LAFD spokesman said: "I couldn't confirm that it is one of our workers. It could be. They refer to 'pop star Michael Jackson' but it is not our practice to name names."

WESLEY SNIPES has backed plans to honour his late BAD co-star MICHAEL JACKSON at the New York subway station the iconic video was filmed.

City bosses want to erect a tribute to the King of Pop at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station in Brooklyn.

Snipes, who shot scenes at the station with Jackson and director Martin Scorsese, insists it would be a worthy honour, following the star's death last year (Jun09).

And he insists he still remembers the lessons he learned from Jackson, nearly 25 years after they met.

The actor tells WENN, "(The tribute) would be cool.

"The amazing thing is I was only supposed to be on the project for about three days and it turned out to be three and a half weeks; almost a month of filming.

"The thing I took from it the most was watching Michael Jackson perform at performance level in his rehearsals. I said, 'Wow that's the consummate artist right there. That's the pinnacle of where I would like to go and the skills that I would like to have as an artist; where I could come in and my rehearsals are performances.' Dr. Conrad Murray's legal team believes the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office is "suspiciously slow" in turning over documents from the Michael Jackson involuntary manslaughter investigation ... sources close to the defense tell TMZ.

As one source puts it, "The prosecution had eight months to accumulate their evidence and we still haven't received it. Something here isn't right."

Dr. Murray is charged with involuntary manslaughter and the defense has not ruled out a plea bargain. But as one source connected to Murray tells TMZ -- because the defense team hasn't received the docs, "We don't have enough to know if we're going to deal."

A spokesperson for the District Attorney's Office calls any suggestion of impropriety "ridiculous," saying, "There are hundreds of documents that are being stamped and when the process is completed, they will be turned over."

Conrad Murray was first awakened to the squalor of drug addiction when he was growing up in a dirt-poor, crime-ridden district of Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad.

As he and his barefoot pals played cricket in the potholed streets, they would be tempted to try a less innocent form of entertainment by a woman known locally as 'the Coke Queen'.

Desperate to escape the grinding boredom of life in El Socorro, a rat-infested ghetto where people lived in tin shacks and drew water from a communal pump, some of his group succumbed.
According to Murray's childhood best-friend, Wallace Leslie, however, the boy who was to become Michael Jackson's personal physician always refused to partake of the pusher's wares.

For even in those early years, the doctor's son harboured grandiose dreams of leaving Trinidad to become a wealthy and respected U.S. physician - and he wasn't about to allow his ambitions to be derailed by a descent into cocaine abuse.

So, as Dr Murray prepares to be charged with involuntary manslaughter, probably this week, for administering the powerful anaesthetic alleged to have killed Jackson, Mr Leslie can see the bitter irony.

'If anyone should have known better than to give drugs to Michael Jackson it was Conrad,' he told me, as we sat on his rickety wooden porch, near the simple brick-built house where Murray was raised.

'When I think how he grew up here and reached so far, just for this to happen, it just makes me sad. It's such a waste of everything he achieved.

From the start, he behaved unprofessionally

'I keep asking myself why he would get mixed up in all this.

'I know he had problems paying maintenance for his kids (Murray has fathered at least seven children by a variety of women) so maybe he was trying to cover his debts quickly. Anyway, I feel sorry for him.'

Here Mr Wallace's wife, Saadia, angrily intercedes. 'Sorry for him? Why?' she cries. 'Anaesthetic should be used in hospitals. It's wrong!

'Maybe when you come from a poor background like this it affects you. Maybe you are always afraid of going back to the poverty you knew as a child. But that doesn't excuse it.'

Among Jackson's millions of fans, there are many who would agree with her.

Indeed, more than seven months after the singer died the hatred for his personal physician still runs so deep that he is expected to be advised to wear a bullet-proof vest during his Los Angeles trial.

An outwardly caring and professional cardiologist with practices in Texas, California and Nevada, Dr Murray first met Jackson in 2008, after being asked to treat one of his children for a cold.

For reasons that will doubtless form part of the prosecution's case, the singer quickly latched on to him, and some six weeks before his death enlisted Murray as his personal doctor.

Such was Jackson's dependence on his 'tame quack', as detractors describe him, that he installed Murray in his rented mansion in Holmby Hills, LA, and insisted the doctor accompany him on his proposed visit to London, where he was due to play a gruelling nine-month series of concerts.

But, of course, they never made the journey.

At precisely 12.21pm West Coast time, the emergency services received a call from Jackson's bodyguard, who said he had stopped breathing and could not be revived.

Paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for 42 minutes at the house before removing Jackson to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead at 2.26pm.

His death sparked a wave of wild speculation that continues even now; yet from the outset Dr Conrad Murray's name has been in the frame.

Murray at first froze - and then he panicked

Not only is he alleged to have administered the fatal dose of Propofol (a milky-white anaesthetic drug whose use is permitted only in hospitals, but on which Jackson had become so dependent that he referred to it as his 'milk') and two other sedatives, but if we believe various (apparently well-placed) sources - some of whom may be eager to shift the blame on to him - he behaved unprofessionally, from start to finish.

After sedating Jackson, he left him alone in his private chamber and spent 47 minutes on his mobile phone, according to records recovered by the police.

It has since been claimed that he was sweet-talking his young girlfriend, Nicole Alvarez. When, at last, he returned to the room, his frail, drug-ravaged charge was apparently in his final death throes.

Faced with the enormity of being held responsible for killing the world's biggest pop star, the prosecution are expected to allege, Dr Murray at first froze - and then panicked.

He is said to have wasted possibly vital minutes before calling Jackson's security office, and left him on the bed while performing CPR so that his body sank into the mattress when Dr Murray tried to press down on his heart.

Anyone trained in basic first aid would have first moved him onto the hard floor.

According to Jackson's family, Dr Murray later betrayed his guilt by behaving shiftily at the medical centre. When they tried to find him, they claim, he had fled the scene.

Through his high-powered team of attorneys, needless to say, 56-year-old Dr Murray - who faces a maximum prison sentence of four years - portrays a very different sequence of events.

They are not expected to deny that he gave Jackson Propofol, but to argue instead that he was perfectly justified and well qualified to do so - and that the dose was insufficient to kill him. To that end, a new lawyer has recently been co- opted onto Dr Murray's legal team. He is J. Michael Flanagan, who in 2004 secured the acquittal of a nurse accused of manslaughter after one of her patients died from the same anaesthetic.

'I'm probably the only attorney in town that has successfully tried a Propofol case involving death,' the silver-haired Mr Flanagan declares brashly.

His boast is just a foretaste of the legal circus we can expect when Dr Murray stands in the dock, almost certainly with live TV cameras capturing every moment of the drama.

But how did a boy from the ramshackle slums of Trinidad become its central figure?

His story starts on the neighbouring Caribbean island of Grenada, where his late father, Rawle Murray (also a doctor - albeit of more humble aspirations), met his mother, Milta.

Murray was born there, in February 1953, but when he was a small boy his mother returned with him to her native Trinidad and remarried a man named Lee Rush.

They had a daughter, Suzan Rush, whose BMW car Murray was driving - for reasons that have yet to be explained - on the day Jackson died. The vehicle was impounded and searched for clues.

Conrad Robert Murray is described by old friends in El Socorro as an engaging, sporty boy who kept wicket for the school cricket team.

Among his peers, whose education ended at 12 years old, he was also the only one bright enough to be given a place at high school.

Since his integrity is now being questioned, however, it is interesting to note that he is best remembered for an act of great honesty in his teens.

'He went to the drug-store to buy something one day, and a woman had left her bag there,' recalls former neighbour Krishndath Saroop, now 58, relating a story I heard repeated.

'When he brought it home and looked inside, he saw it contained $20,000 Trinidadian Dollars (about £2,000; then a colossal sum). Most boys would have kept it - but Conrad insisted on finding the owner and giving it back to her.'

In the U.S., he left a trail of paternity suits behind him

His morals were evidently instilled by his mother, who still lives on the same street.

She also encouraged him in his stated boyhood ambition: to become a great doctor who could help poor Trinidadians unable to afford medical care.

Fatefully, however, as he grew older, his standards began to slip. On leaving school, he worked first as a customs broker, then in insurance, intending to save enough to pay his medical school fees.

These jobs meant he rubbed shoulders with Trinidad's wealthy elite - and soon he wanted to join them. Wallace Leslie recalls how he used to cruise around in a cream and brown Dodge Avenger car, picking up any pretty girl who caught his eye. To impress them, he would boast of being a junior doctor - even though his medical training had not yet begun.

One of his favourite weekend games was to check the local newspaper for wedding parties and gate-crash them, pretending to be an invited guest.

And on the dance-floor, he always made a bee-line for the best-looking woman.

At 6ft 4in tall and good-looking, with his Michael Jackson-style afro (Jacko was his favourite singer, even then), the young 'doctor' seemed quite a catch, and by his 20s he'd had countless flings.

By his mid-20s, when he emigrated to Houston, Texas - where his father was by then practising medicine - he had fathered at least one child on the island, says his friend Mr Leslie.

It was in the United States, however, that the pursuit of women and high-living really began to consume him. From the trail of costly - and sometimes unpaid - paternity suits that he has left in his wake down the years, it seems that Dr Murray has not always behaved responsibly towards his many lovers and their respective offspring.

They appear to remain remarkably loyal to him, however, for since the Jackson scandal broke, not one of them has kissed and told on him - despite the staggering sums on offer. One can only speculate as to why. And when I tracked down one woman who sued him for paternity money, a 43-year-old Hispanic-American named Nenita Malbiran, even she was fulsome in her praise for the Romeo doctor.

'It seems like people have been accusing him of things he has not done,' said Ms Malbiran, who once worked as a nurse in his practice. 'He's a good person and a brilliant doctor, and he wouldn't do anything like this.'

His latest girlfriend, Nicole, the mother of his seventh child, is no less supportive, even though she has been grilled by the police and forced to hide in the Santa Monica apartment she shared with Murray at the time of Jackson's death.

Then again, the 27-year-old beauty - who caught his attention four years ago when she was working as a stripper at a club he frequents - has good reason to remain loyal.

On the first night he took her home, he is said to have handed her £2,000 as a gift. 'I've hit the jackpot,' she cooed, as she wafted her new Sugar Daddy's cheque before a friend later.

Small wonder, then, that at the time he met Jackson, Dr Murray was reputedly up to his eyes in debt, with a string of legal judgments against him.

Court documents show that he owed $228,420 (£143,660) to a finance company, $135,302 (£85,110) to a leasing company (which may be why he was driving his sister's car) and $71,302 (£44.846) in school fees. Plus, of course, the many thousands he owed to the mothers of his children.

However, in the eyes of his defenders, many of them his loyal patients, there was a very different side to Dr Murray.

And this was the man he had once aspired to be.

His long-time Baptist pastor and close friend, Father Floyd Williams, told the Mail how the doctor would regularly leave his lucrative practice in Las Vegas and fly back to Houston to treat poor blacks who had no means of paying him.

He described Dr Murray as 'a humanitarian' and early last year, he says, when his friend told him excitedly that Michael Jackson had offered him a salary of $150,000 (£94,000) a month to be his doctor, he urged him to grasp the opportunity with both hands.

As he prepares to don his bulletproof vest for the biggest celebrity trial since O.J. Simpson cheated justice, how Jacko's feckless doctor must wish he had ignored the pastor's best advice.

MICHAEL JACKSON's father has been granted permission to trawl through his son's medical records after a much-publicised legal battle to get answers about the King of Pop's death.

On Friday (19Feb10), a Los Angeles judge ruled that Joe Jackson is entitled to view the medical records - but only those made on the day his son died (29Jun09) at UCLA Medical Center.

Jackson has made it clear he wants the medical records so he can determine if anyone was to blame for the Thriller icon's death last summer.

The request is linked to a potential lawsuit from Joe Jackson over his son's passing.

The administrators of the singer's estate previously lodged an objection with the court, claiming Joe was not entitled to the papers because he was not a dependent of his son.

Michael Jackson had a secret girlfriend who his children called “mom”, close friends of the singer have told the Sunday Mirror.

We can reveal that the star was in a long-term relationship with Ugandan-born Grace Rwaramba at the time he died.

Ian Barkley, who travelled the world with Jacko for three years as his personal photographer, says the couple’s romance was an open secret among staff after they fell in love while she was nanny to his children.

Ian told how, behind closed doors, Grace, 42, acted like a normal mum to Jackson’s kids Prince Michael, 12, Paris Katherine, 11 and six-year-old Prince Michael II.

“Grace loved Michael and he loved her,” he said. “The kids called her ‘Mom’.”

Last week Jackson’s former head of security Matt Fiddes revealed the King of Pop had a secret lover – but refused to reveal her name.

Fiddes, 30, who has known Jacko since the 1990s, said: “The family were aware that there was someone special in his life who he loved and adored and had his ups and downs with.

“For some time she’s been present in his life. She wasn’t a celebrity figure – absolutely not. I imagine she is distraught right now.”

Another of Jackson’s bodyguards said: “Matt was referring to Grace. They were more like a married couple than employer and employee.”

The minder, who asked not to be identified added: “Grace was the closest person to Michael and the kids. She will be broken-hearted. The children were always their joint priority and like any couple they’d row if they disagreed about how they were being brought up.

“But the difference between Grace and other women in Michael’s life was that she had absolutely no interest in fame. It was something she actively avoided and Michael was determined to keep her and their relationship out of the public gaze.

“The romance was well-known among staff but it was made very clear to them that this was not something that should become part of the public domain.”

Grace was introduced to Jacko by his former spokesman Dr Tohme R Tohme in 1991. She started out as a secretary before working her way up to become the most important woman in the superstar’s life.

In 1999 she was picked to care for Jackson’s oldest kids following his divorce from second wife Debbie Rowe. She became the dominant figure in their lives with one insider noting: “Everything is done Grace’s way.”

Six years later, Jackson asked her to take the children to meet the oldest kids’ surrogate mother Debbie Rowe. Debbie was said to be stunned when she heard the kids call Grace “Mom”. The bond between them was so strong that it was Grace the kids reportedly cried for after hearing of their father’s death 10 days ago.

This week Grace was back in Beverly Hills after Jackson’s family asked her to help comfort the kids. She is expected to be among the chief mourners at the private family funeral on Tuesday.

Barkley, a key member of Jacko’s inner circle between 2002 and 2005, believes the children should live with Grace rather than Jackson’s mum, who has temporary custody.

But Debbie Rowe is preparing to launch her own multi-million-dollar custody bid.

Ian added: “Though I love Michael’s mum Katherine, she is 79 and if she passes on, the best place for the kids to go would be to Grace. She really raised them. She was with them day in and day out. She really loved them and they they adored her as they would a mother.”

Stunning Grace, who also had a short-lived romance with Jackson’s older brother Jermaine in the early Nineties, said last week she quit the US in December after being sacked by Jacko. The drug-addled star was said to have become jealous of her closeness to the children.

Grace had been sacked on several other occasions only to be re-employed. Once she was dismissed for calling Jackson’s mother and sister to ask them to intervene over his drug problems.

She has said that in recent months he had become dirty and unkempt, and had so little ready money he could not even afford balloons to mark Paris’s birthday – adding that Katherine phoned her the day after his death to ask where money was hidden in his house.

Grace revealed Michael hid cash in black bags under carpets at his Los Angeles mansion. The former nanny this year set up home in London, where the Thriller singer was due to stage his 50-date comeback shows this month.

Jackson was drawn to Grace because of their shared interest in helping children in poverty. She backed his idea to adopt five kids from developing countries and two years ago the couple were said to be planning a major humanitarian campaign to help destitute children.

Grace was also credited for convincing the star that he could make a full-scale comeback and reclaim his King of Pop crown.

The loyal nanny, who describes Jacko’s kids as as “my babies”, told a TV interviewer last week: “I took them in my arms on the first day of each of their lives.”

She is said to have wielded so much power in the Jackson household that she controlled all access to the singer – even deciding which family members could speak to him.

Three years ago she reportedly barred Michael’s dad Joe from the family mansion.

A year later it was rumoured the couple had secretly married but this was denied by Grace, who is still legally married to first husband Stacey Adair.

No doubt, we will all be inundated with media spinning their stories about the upcoming murder trial of Michael Jackson’s doctor, Conrad Murray, in the upcoming months and beyond. We are going to hear how Michael was a junkie, a drug addict, who caused his own death.

What if I told you that that’s a lie? How do I know? I’ve read the full autopsy report. It was grueling. It’s all there….the truth. I don’t agree with it being published as it should be something private. I didn’t realize how much so until I read it. My goal was seeking and proving truth for Michael, which the autopsy report definitely does, though I think that in hindsight, it is a gross invasion of Michael’s privacy and I feel guilt now at having even looked at it. But I cannot turn back the clock and change that, so I will try to bring good and bring out truth, from what I saw.

Would it surprise you to learn that Michael was telling us the truth all along? I’ve known that all along, as have others, but there are still many who never really listened to him when he was trying to give us the truth as media and tabloids were on a witch hunt to destroy him and his image.

Truth matters. Would you believe me if I told you that Michael Jackson…

Did indeed have vitiligo (confirmed in the autopsy) and did not “bleach” his skin to become white, and that despite your hearing how he was a junkie, that the only meds they found in him were regular prescriptions, the drugs used to try to resuscitate him and the propofol? It’s all in the official autopsy report. I also share some of that with you in this article, so please keep reading.

The truth is, blaming Michael Jackson for his own death is just another lie being spread by the media. Why? Because sensational stories that have drama, intrigue, lies and negative news, SELL! News and stories about do-gooders don’t attract major attention (which is why most of you never heard about Michael’s non-stop charity and helping people and the lives of so many children that he saved). The ugly, sensationalist stories make the newspapers and television media outlets money. The more people watching or buying, the more advertisers they get. The more advertisers, the more money they make. It’s a business, pure and simple.

Here is a perfect example of just one of the millions of lies Michael had to endure, day in and day out, courtesy of those who proclaim to be reporting “truth”:

Too many bought the lie, hook, line and sinker, or, simply didn’t care about the truth. This lie was then spread, regardless of its inaccuracy and regardless of how much it hurt another human being….and was done so without any proof and with nothing more than hearsay to back up the claims. Again, it is so important to seek truth. You can be a voice that stops the craziness and the lies. Anyone can lie on anyone else and if you get someone to believe it, it spreads, and before long, people start believing it because they are hearing it so often. It’s no different than bullying.

I felt a need to write this because, with all of the garbage you are going to hear in the coming months, I thought you might want to hear some real, honest truth, straight from the hip. I’ve talked with people, I’ve researched, and I read the autopsy report from top to bottom.

The truth of the matter is that, indeed, Michael Joseph Jackson was telling us the truth, about himself, and his life. We just weren’t listening! The FBI files prove it, the autopsy report proves it (though I don’t agree with the FBI files and the final autopsy report being made public as again, it’s is a gross invasion of his privacy.)

Getting truth out there was always the catalyst for the Reflections website. But you have to spend a little time on there, to really read and view. If you haven’t already and have believed the lies, you will be blown away by the truth and how different it is from what you have heard.

So few of us seek truth. We don’t have time, we say. But, we have time to watch 24 hour news channels, read the paper, surf the internet, spend all day on Facebook and watch our reality shows every night. We have time to believe all of the garbage that is thrown at us daily and regurgitated as truth and we then have time to tell everybody we know, this convoluted version of “truth”, essentially, continuing to spread the disease.

A man’s life was taken (long before this murder). His life was stolen from him because of all of the lies that were spread about him…by the tabloids, the media, and by everyone who spread those rumors and lies they heard and read as a way to entertain themselves and their friends. After all, it can’t hurt to make fun of someone else, to defame someone’s character, to call someone a freak, to tear another human being apart. That’s what we tell ourselves. What have we become as a society! This could easily have been you or me. It could happen to anyone. So if you don’t care because it doesn’t relate to you, it DOES! You are not immune.

Michael was a man of dignity. He was humble. He was kind. He loved and gave of his heart and soul in his talent and in how he lived out his life helping others. The world gave back to him by trying to steal away his dignity, his privacy, his very life.

Michael Jackson's doctor's case may hinge on his police statement

On a Saturday evening last summer, Dr. Conrad Murray met with two police detectives at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Marina del Rey. Outside, the world was in shock over the death of Michael Jackson, and inside a room at the posh waterfront hotel, the investigators wanted answers from the last person to see him alive. With his lawyer by his side, Murray talked for more than three hours. The interview ended with him a free man.

More than seven months later, Murray faces an involuntary manslaughter charge in a case that legal experts said may hinge on the physician's own words.

In that June interview, Murray volunteered information expected to form the backbone of the prosecution's case: That he gave Jackson the surgical anesthetic propofol as a sleep aid and left the singer alone and under the influence of the dangerously potent drug.

"If there had been no admissions, you would be left wondering what happened and the prosecution would have to come up with their own theory," said Vesna Maras, a former Los Angeles County prosecutor who tried medical legal cases, including one involving a propofol death. "He's the one who laid out exactly what happened. It doesn't get better than that."

On Monday, Murray pleaded not guilty. His lawyer said the doctor's willingness to talk with police shows he had nothing to hide.

"In some respects, it's vital to the defense," attorney Ed Chernoff said. "If the first time Dr. Murray would've explained what happened in that room was to the jury, then . . . they would've said, 'Why didn't you tell this to the cops right away?' "

He added that the parts of the interview cited in public records were "cherry picked" by investigators and failed to give a complete picture of what the doctor told police.

When Murray sat down with detectives June 27, two days after Jackson died, the cause of the singer's death remained unclear. Murray's attorney said the doctor agreed to an interview because he was as baffled as the rest of the world as to what killed Jackson and wanted to help police.

But, Chernoff said, Murray, 56, would have become a suspect whether he talked to police or not. He had identified himself to paramedics as Jackson's personal physician, and propofol bottles found in the singer's bedroom could easily be traced to him.

"If he hadn't spoken to them, the police would only be left with the impression that the doctor recklessly pumped a large amount of propofol into Jackson without any precaution, without any reason," Chernoff said.

Murray told the officers he had been giving Jackson propofol nightly for six weeks, starting about the time he began working for the performer, according to police affidavits filed in court. He said Jackson told him that, for years, other doctors had been treating his chronic insomnia with propofol. Murray said he eventually became concerned that the singer was addicted and tried to wean him off the anesthetic.

According to court records, Murray told police that on the day Jackson died, he tried to get the performer to sleep using Valium and later two other sedatives. But Jackson remained awake, demanding propofol. The doctor said that after nine hours, he finally relented and gave the singer 25 milligrams -- half the regular dose. He said he sat next to Jackson's bed as the propofol took effect and after 10 minutes left to use the restroom. He said he was gone for no longer than two minutes and when he returned, Jackson had stopped breathing.

Paramedics were not summoned immediately. Murray's attorney said it took nearly half an hour because of difficulties contacting the singer's security in the house; the police affidavit suggests it was closer to an hour and 20 minutes. Cellphone records indicate that Murray also talked on the phone for 47 minutes around the time he told police he was trying to revive the singer, according to the affidavit. His lawyer said police got the timeline wrong.

Prosecutors are likely to seize on differences between what Murray told police and what he told medical personnel trying to revive Jackson. According to the affidavits, Murray told paramedics and emergency room doctors that he had given the singer one sedative, the anti-anxiety drug lorazepam, but never mentioned propofol.

"That's a telling omission. He knows it's wrong. He knows he is not supposed to be fooling around with propofol," said Dr. Bryan A. Liang, a physician and California Western School of Law professor.

To prove involuntary manslaughter, prosecutors must show that Murray killed Jackson in the commission of a crime "not amounting to a felony" or while acting "without due caution and circumspection." Experts say prosecutors are likely to focus on medical protocols that Murray, a cardiologist, allegedly ignored in his use of propofol as a sleep aid. The drug is so dangerous that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration says only those trained in anesthesia should administer it.

"The concept of using propofol for insomnia is completely crazy," said Maras, the former prosecutor. "It's like trying to swat a fly with a bomb."

Prosecutors also are expected to highlight Murray's admission that he left Jackson alone. The doctor said he used a device to measure the singer's heart and respiratory rate, but a coroner's report concluded the setup did not meet medical standards.

The defense might call in medical experts to portray Murray's actions as reasonable given the health history of his famous client and the doctor's professed attempts to wean him from propofol.

Ellyn Garofalo, a veteran defense attorney, said such experts might question whether the drug dosages Murray said he gave Jackson were enough on their own to kill the singer.

Jackson's prior use of the drug might also be an important factor for the defense, which could argue that the singer had built up a tolerance to propofol, she said.

"If you get a line of doctors to come in and say, 'I gave him this amount and he was fine,' then it's good for Murray," said Garofalo, who is representing a doctor charged with illegally furnishing prescription medication to the late model Anna Nicole Smith.

"I think it's going to be a fight."

MICHAEL JACKSON's parents were fuming after DR. CONRAD MURRAY pleaded not guilty to an involuntary manslaughter charge on Monday (08Feb10) - insisting their son's former doctor should have accepted responsibility for "killing" the singer.

Dr. Conrad Murray walked free from court in Los Angeles after posting $75,000 (£47,000) bail, prompting the singer's elderly parents, Katherine and Joe, to speak out against the physician.

Katherine ranted to reporters, "He's a monster... He should have pleaded guilty. He killed my son."

Meanwhile Joe told E! Online, "I didn't like today's hearing at all. I just want justice done and that was not justice."

Murray, who has denied any wrongdoing, surrendered to face allegations of administering a lethal dose of the hospital anaesthetic Propofol to the late singer - but he did not come face-to-face with any member of the Jackson clan.

The Thriller legend's sister La Toya, who was also present at the hearing, has vowed to "fight" until those responsible for the singer's death are brought to justice.

She says, "Michael was murdered and although he died at the hands of Dr. Conrad Murray, I believe Dr. Murray was a part of a much larger plan.

Dr. Conrad Murray pleaded not guilty to the involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson but the singer's mother insists the physician did kill her son.

Michael Jackson's mother insists Dr. Conrad Murray "killed" her son, despite the physician pleading not guilty to his involuntary manslaughter.

Katherine Jackson watched as the medic - who was with Michael when he died last June - entered his plea at Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday (08.02.10) and later insisted he had lied to the judge.

She said: "He's lying. He's guilty. Nobody was there but him. He's just trying to save his own behind. He killed him. He wasn't monitoring him."

Michael's sister La Toya also spoke out against Murray and insisted she will continue to fight for justice for the late 'Thriller' singer.

She said: "Michael was murdered, and although he died at the hands of Dr. Conrad Murray, I believe Dr. Murray was a part of a much larger plan. There are other individuals involved, and I will not rest and I will continue to fight until all of the proper individuals are brought forth and justice is served."

Murray - who, according to prosecutors, unlawfully, but without malice, killed Michael - was later released on $75,000 bail.

However, his lawyer Edward Chernoff fears his client will not receive a fair trial because of Michael's popularity.

When asked whether it would be possible to find an impartial jury, he replied: "It's going to be tough, but I think if we get the right jury, the right result will come in."

Murray is accused of giving Michael the powerful anaesthetic Propofol to help him sleep but which instead led to his death on June 25.

If convicted, Murray faces a maximum of four years in prison.

His lawyers filed papers in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Friday (29Jan10), demanding the release of medical records - but Joe Jackson is now facing a challenge from the men controlling his son's estate, who want to keep the documents from him.

The administrators claim Joe is not entitled to the papers because he was not a dependent of his son and cannot sue for wrongful death, according to TMZ.com

Family members, including Joe, have accused the singer's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, of the wrongful death of the star, but police have yet to charge the medic with any wrongdoing - and he has maintained he's innocent.

Michael was pronounced dead on arrival at the L.A. medical centre.

Murray is accused of administering a lethal dose of anaesthetic drug Propofol to the King of Pop prior to his death last June (09).

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office declared Jackson's death a homicide, stating the superstar died from "acute propofol intoxication" combined with sedatives.

Murray has been identified in search warrants as a suspect in a manslaughter investigation but has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

Last month (Jan10), Murray hired top attorney J. Michael Flanagan to represent him amid reports prosecutors were seeking to indict him for involuntary manslaughter.

Now Flanagan has revealed his client intends to surrender himself to authorities on Friday, even though charges have yet to be officially filed.

Flanagan tells People.com, "He'll surrender Friday. I anticipate he'll be charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter, to which we'll enter a plea of not guilty.

"I expect that we'll have him first surrender to the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department) where he'll be booked and then transported to court for arraignment."

Flanagan insists he will immediately post bail for Murray following the expected arraignment.

The news comes just one day after Murray's representative Miranda Sevcik was forced to deny speculation the medic was planning to surrender himself to authorities on Wednesday (03Jan10).

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Dr. Conrad Murray expects to surrender to Los Angeles authorities this week on charges relating to the death of Michael Jackson, his lawyer said Tuesday.

"Dr. Murray is more than ready to surrender and answer to any charges," attorney Ed Chernoff said.

Prosecutors have not announced any charges, however, and Murray has not been told how or where he should surrender, according to Miranda Sevcik, spokeswoman for Murray's legal team.

Murray traveled to Los Angeles from his home in Houston, Texas, last week in anticipation of possible charges, which he expects to be announced within 24 to 48 hours, Sevick said.

Murray was hired to be Jackson's personal physician last spring as the entertainer prepared for his comeback concerts set for London, England, starting in July.

The doctor told Los Angeles Police investigators that he was with Jackson through the early morning hours of June 25 in an effort to help the pop star fall asleep, according to a police affidavit.

He administered various sleep aids, and after Jackson finally began sleeping in the late morning hours, Murray said, he left the bedroom for "about two minutes maximum," the affidavit said.

"Upon his return, Murray noticed that Jackson was no longer breathing," it said.

Murray stayed with Jackson as an ambulance rushed him from his $100,000-a-month rented mansion in Holmby Hills to UCLA Medical Center.

Efforts at CPR proved fruitless, and Jackson was pronounced dead at 2:26 p.m.

The Los Angeles County coroner ruled Jackson's death a homicide resulting from a combination of drugs, primarily propofol and lorazepam.

The coroner's statement said Jackson died from "acute propofol intoxication," but there were "other conditions contributing to death: benzodiazepine effect." Lorazepam and two other drugs Murray said he used are benzodiazepines.

Murray told investigators he had given Jackson three anti-anxiety drugs to help him sleep in the hours before he stopped breathing, a police affidavit said.

Murray had been treating Jackson for insomnia for six weeks at the time of the singer's death. He told investigators he gave Jackson 50 milligrams of propofol, the generic name for Diprivan, diluted with the anesthetic lidocaine every night via an intravenous drip.

Murray told police he was worried that Jackson was becoming addicted to the drug and tried to wean him off it.

During the two nights before Jackson's death, Murray said, he put together combinations of other drugs that succeeded in helping Jackson sleep.

All the music-themed award shows have paid their respects to Michael Jackson with heartfelt tributes. But the Grammys topped them all Sunday night because they not only displayed the King of Pop's music but captured the sentiment of one of the issues closest to his heart - saving the planet.

Then for the shocking finale, Jackson's two eldest children, Prince Michael and Paris, accepted the Grammys' Lifetime Achievement on their father's behalf. (Michael's youngest son, Prince II aka "Blanket," remained backstage.)

Instead of offering a medley of his biggest records, Celine Dion, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, and Smokey Robinson joined for a performance of Jackson's "Earth Song" as a 3D version of the video from This Is It played in the background. Additionally, some of Jackson's lead vocals were also used for the live rendition.

The featured artists were great choices and offered broad, diverse appeal to the sound of the record. It also made "Earth Song" bigger, like the global anthem "We Are The World" that Jackson co-wrote along with Lionel Richie 25 years ago.

Smokey said he was honored to be a part of the tribute. "I hope that people were listening to even more so than seeing," Robinson said to press backstage. "This is it for us. We need to be aware of what we're doing and do something about it before it's too late."

The most moving part of the song was its climax, when each of the performers had a moment to get front-and-center and belt. Hudson shined here, as it was a gospel moment that suited her well. Underwood also captured the passion of the record.

The 3D element was a nice touch, but only offered a few bonuses of dandelions and a fluttering butterfly. But this segment was clearly about the message not the special effects.

After the performance, Lionel Richie, who introduced the performance, announced that Jackson's children and their cousins (Tito Jackson's sons) would be accepting their dad's award.

Seeing Jackson's kids walk out was emotional. It was sad because seeing them reminded me of their daily struggle of coping their father's death. But seeing them was also a joyous experience because they looked vibrant and beautiful. He would be proud.

They appear to have matured so much since we last saw them at the memorial in July.

But even more impactful was their composure and strength.

Big brother Prince Michael had the stage presence of his dad as he boldly approached the microphone with his sister and offered an acceptance speech that singled that he and his siblings were OK.

"[We] like to thank the fans, our father loved you so much," Prince Michael said. "Our father was always concerned about the planet."

Prince Michael added that his father's music had a universal theme of love. "We will continue to spread his message," he said.

LOS ANGELES — Celine Dion says she's still sad and angry about the death of Michael Jackson.

The diva is set to take the stage along with Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Carrie Underwood and Smokey Robinson for a 3-D tribute to Jackson at the 52nd Grammy Awards on Sunday.

It will be the first look at the environmentally conscious "Earth Day" mini-movie Jackson created for his "This Is It" tour before his death last June.

After rehearsals on Saturday, Dion was asked how it felt to sing "Earth Day" while images of the King of Pop scrolled by on massive screens overhead.

"Very emotional," said Dion, clad in a grey embroidered T-shirt and jeans, with a white leather jacket and thigh-high grey suede boots.

"Very honoured and emotional at the same time. It's kind of an awkward feeling. Sadness, and mad at the same time that he was top shape.

"You see a lot through the newspapers and it's unfortunate sometimes that people have this (distorted) image, but Michael was on top of his gig and on top of his talent, and seeing the movie and seeing him, how top-shape he was, it's very difficult to accept."

Special glasses are available only in the United States at Target stores, so Canadian viewers might not get the full effect of the visuals, which feature a small girl dancing through a lush jungle and falling asleep to images of polar bears, elephants and zebras charging around onscreen.

The song, however, will still pack a punch. As Dion swayed and danced onstage alongside the others, the group harmonized with pre-recorded vocals from Jackson.

For Dion, Jackson was an "amazing source of inspiration." So much so, that she said he was part of the reason she decided to learn English.

"I wanted the same life - show business," she explained.

"I wanted to sing onstage like him. ... I wanted to be onstage someday with Michael Jackson, especially (to) sing onstage with him maybe one day."

Dion said she didn't want to meet the King of Pop and be unable to tell him how honoured she was because of a language barrier.

"It was because of him in a way that I went to school to learn English," she said.

The Grammy performance is difficult for her, the singer added.

"It is, because I'm not only a fan, but I knew him personally a little bit, I met with him, and it's difficult to know that he was doing perfectly well and that he's no longer with us," she said.

"It's just heartbreaking."

So she took one more opportunity to explain what made Jackson such a special performer.

"Michael was not only a great musician, he was a great dancer, he was a great visionary, he had every instrument inside of his body, he knew exactly what he wanted to hear, what he wanted to do, he was feeling everything," she said.

"I hear 'HOO,"' she says, imitating Jackson's signature high-pitched flourish. "I hear this, it's not even a song, but for me it means everything. ...

"He was very, very special. I'm a big fan of Michael Jackson, period. That's all I can say."

Prosecutors reportedly to pursue involuntary manslaughter charge

LOS ANGELES - Nearly seven months after Michael Jackson’s death stunned the world, the official investigation of his death is edging toward conclusion with prosecutors prepared to seek an indictment of Jackson’s doctor on a charge of involuntary manslaughter, The Associated Press has learned.

The fate of Dr. Conrad Murray has been the subject of speculation since he found Jackson unconscious in his home in Los Angeles last June. Jackson was preparing for a strenuous concert comeback in London, and Murray, a cardiologist, had been hired as his personal physician for the tour.

A law enforcement source who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation remains open said Friday that Murray would be prosecuted on a theory of gross negligence alleging that his treatment of Jackson was an extreme departure from the standard of care normally followed by physicians.

The coroner has ruled Jackson’s death at age 50 was a homicide caused by acute intoxication by the powerful anesthetic propofol, with other sedatives a contributing factor.

Propofol depresses breathing and heart rate while lowering blood pressure, so it’s supposed to be administered by an anesthesia professional in a medical setting.

The singer died after Murray administered propofol and two other sedatives to get the chronic insomniac to sleep, court documents state. Murray told police he left the room to use the bathroom, and phone records show he also made calls for 47 minutes around the time Jackson encountered problems.

When Murray realized Jackson was unresponsive, he began frantic efforts to revive him, but Jackson never regained consciousness.

The coroner found the propofol was administered to Jackson without any medical need and that recommended resuscitation equipment was missing.

As the police investigation neared an end, criminal attorney J. Michael Flanagan said Friday he had been hired to join Houston attorney Edward Chernoff in representing Murray.

In addition, Chernoff released a statement saying he had not received notice that a grand jury was hearing the case or inviting Murray to testify.

Chernoff spokeswoman Miranda Sevcik said earlier that Murray neither prescribed nor administered anything that should have killed Jackson.

Flanagan previously worked in the media spotlight representing Britney Spears in a hit-and-run case. He said he tried a propofol case several years ago, representing a nurse who was acquitted after it was shown she played no role in administering propofol to a patient who died.

Flanagan said there was a difference between a nurse’s role and “a very sophisticated doctor making a medical judgment.”

To prove gross negligence, he said, prosecutors would have to show a conscious indifference for life.

“This trial could end up being a trial of medical practice,” he said. “The question is what discretion does a doctor have to treat a patient, and if a doctor makes a mistake, is it a crime?”

Jackson family spokesman Jesse Derris said he had no immediate comment from the family.

A final legal action could be weeks away, after the case is formally transferred to the district attorney’s office by the Los Angeles Police Department. If a grand jury indictment is sought, secret hearings would be held, and the panel would have the final decision on possible charges.

An involuntary manslaughter conviction carries a potential sentence of two to four years in prison.

The district attorney’s office is waiting for Los Angeles police to turn over the case before presenting it to a grand jury, the source said.

However, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office denied that any decisions have been made.

“We have been working closely with the Los Angeles police during the pendency of this investigation,” spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said. “There is no case before us at present, and no final decision has been made.”

To prove a charge of involuntary manslaughter, authorities must show there was a reckless action that created a risk of death or great bodily injury. If a doctor is aware of the risk, there might also be an issue of whether the patient knows that risk and decided to take it.

A large number of witnesses have been interviewed by police, including those who were present during Jackson’s last days and those who worked with him in preparation for his comeback concert, “This Is It.”

Authorities have also lined up medical expert witnesses to testify about the normal standard of care in a situation such as Jackson’s and to give opinions on why Murray’s actions constituted gross negligence, the source said.

Murray’s professional history is expected to be explored during a trial with an emphasis on whether he had the required expertise in administering propofol.

The timing of an indictment would be dictated by two factors — how long it takes for the district attorney’s office to conduct an internal review of the evidence and when the grand jury will be available to hear the case.

The person said it was thought that it would be more efficient to go to a grand jury than to charge Murray and proceed by way of a preliminary hearing. A presentation to the grand jury where witnesses testify behind closed doors could take three to five days.

new range of Michael Jackson dolls aimed at fans and collectors is set to hit the UK market in time for Christmas as toy makers become the latest industry to cash in on the King of Pop's posthumous appeal.

The Character Group, listed on London's junior market Aim, today announced a collection of official Michael Jackson figurines in some of the singer's best-known poses.

"As would befit the 'King of Pop', they will be made to the highest specification and fully articulated with each figure being numbered and displayed in commemorative packaging," the company said.

The collection will be made by Playmates Toys and distributed in the UK by Character Group's subsidiary, Character Options.

Sales of Jackson's music soared after his sudden death last June and audiences later flocked to a feature film of his final rehearsals as well as to tribute shows. Just four months after his death, his afterlife earnings had already reached $90m (£56m), according to Forbes' annual list of Top-Earning Dead Celebrities.

Character Group's chairman Richard King is expecting a wide audience for the new dolls.

Work is expected to begin this year on a 100-acre Michael Jackson entertainment complex that would include a museum, performing arts center, hotel, golf course and theme park inspired by the pop singer’s Neverland Ranch.

“Everything is in the planning stages at this point, but we’re moving on a fast track and we’re looking forward to actually breaking ground sometime in 2010,” said Odie Anderson, president of the Jackson family project in the pop singer’s hometown of Gary, Ind.

Anderson said the theme park would include rides found at Jackson’s 2,700-acre Neverland Ranch near Los Olivos in Santa Barbara County.

In addition to a zoo, aviary and nature preserve, the Neverland theme park included a carousel, Ferris wheel, bumper cars, passenger train and classic carnival rides such as the Zipper, Sea Dragon and Octopus.

A roller coaster with a “Thriller” theme would be part of the planned theme park, the Daily Mirror reported.

The $1-billion project would be built over a 10-year period, starting with the museum, art center and hotel before breaking ground on the golf course and theme park.

DzBB's report also said that the dancing inmates of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center learned "The Drill" from Travis Payne for two days.

"The Drill" was the last choreography Payne and Jackson collaborated on before Jackson died in June 2009.

Shortly after Jackson died, the inmates performed a tribute dance number based on Jackson's hit "Thriller." The video of the dance was uploaded to video sharing site YouTube.

Promo for singer's classic 1983 song to be preserved

Michael Jackson's classic promo for his 1983 hit 'Thriller' has become the first music video to be added to the US national film archive.

The archive was set up to preserve films for future generations, with movies The Mask Of Zorro, Pillow Talk and Quasi At The Quackadero among the films just added alongside the 'Thriller' promo, reports BBC News.

Steve Legett of the National Film Preservation Board said that the 14-minute music video, featuring the singer's famous zombie dance, was added due to the increased importance of music videos in popular culture.

"Because of the way the recording industry is evolving and changing, we thought it would be good to go back to the development of an earlier seismic shift, the development of the music video," he said.

25 new films are added to the archive every year after being nominated by the public.

FBI files on Michael Jackson published online

os Angeles, California (CNN) -- The FBI released files it collected over the past 17 years on Michael Jackson on Tuesday, most of them from the federal agency's support of the California investigations of child molestation allegations against the entertainer.

Journalists began scouring the 333 heavily redacted pages -- published on the FBI's Web site -- for any new insight into Jackson's life and the investigations of him.

The FBI, noting that Jackson was acquitted of all charges, said the case files were made public after Freedom of Information Act requests filed after the pop star's June 25 death.

Los Angeles Police, who were investigating child molestation allegations against Jackson, called the FBI's Los Angeles office in September 1993 to suggest the agency look into a "possible federal violation against Jackson concerning transportation of a minor across state lines for immoral purposes (Mann Act)", one document said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Patricia Donahue "advised that she checked with her front office and they had made the decision that the United States attorney was not interested in prosecuting Michael Jackson for a violation of the Mann Act," the report said.

Still, the FBI office decided it could offer support to the LAPD and Santa Barbara County Sheriff's investigation, it said.

That support included providing a driver and stenographer for California investigators who traveled to Manila in the Philippines to interview the couple who had managed Jackson's Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara County from 1988 until 1990, it said.

The FBI file included several newspaper clippings reporting on the detectives' trip to interview Mariano Quindoy and his wife, Faye.

An FBI agent wrote that the detectives "said they felt they had been successful in their interviews."

The FBI also helped the police follow up on a lead in Ottawa, Canada, where they thought a social worker might have information about Jackson.

The woman told an FBI agent in a phone interview that during a cross-country train trip from Chicago, Illinois, to California she slept in a compartment adjoining one of four occupied by Jackson, "adult staff" and a boy who "was ID'd as Michael's 'cousin,'" the agent wrote.

"Jackson was very possessive of boy," the agent's handwritten notes said.

The woman told the agent that at night she "heard questionable noises through wall," the notes said.

"She was concerned enough to notify the conductor of her suspicions," the agent wrote.

A notation at the end of the case file said it was closed in August 1994 as "No outstanding leads remain for the Los Angeles Office in this matter."

It said the Los Angeles prosecutor "was still in the process of deciding whether or not to file charges against Jackson."

The Los Angeles County district attorney did not pursue criminal charges against Jackson, but the singer did reach a confidential financial settlement with the 1993 accuser, Jordan Chandler, and his father after they filed a lawsuit. Reports at the time said the Chandlers got between $16 million and $20 million from Jackson's insurance company.

The Chandler accusation became a key part of the prosecution's case when Jackson was tried and acquitted of molestation a decade later in Santa Barbara County, California.

The FBI files from that case said the federal government gave forensic computer analysis assistance in the early months of 2004.

The FBI also considered a request by local police for security help at Jackson's 2004 trial because the "proceedings could represent a soft target for terrorism due to the worldwide media coverage the case is receiving," one FBI document said.

While there was "no intelligence indicating a threat of a terrorist act targeting this event," the report noted that "a known New Black Panther Party member" was seen in the crowd during Jackson's first court appearance in Santa Maria, California.

Santa Barbara County prosecutors asked the FBI in September 2004 to consider federal sex charges against Jackson involving an alleged victim in New York, one file said.

An FBI agent who traveled from Los Angeles to New York to interview him later reported that the alleged victim "advised agents that he had no interest in testifying against Jackson."

"[Name redacted] advised that he would legally fight any attempt to do so. [Name redacted] believed he had done his part."

That case was closed soon after the interview.

The files also include notes from the FBI's investigation of a man who sent letters threatening to kill Jackson and President George H.W. Bush in 1992. The man pleaded guilty and was sent to a federal prison, the FBI said.

I totally remember where I was and what I was doing when the horrible news hit me: I had just stepped off the bus, when a guy walks up to me and says “Did you hear that Michael Jackson just died?”

I froze and looked at him incredulously, and then attempted to continue to my destination. But I couldn’t. I had lapsed into a temporary state of suspended animation!!

Seeing my reaction, he then said: “It stunned you, didn’t it? The same thing happened to me. I couldn’t believe it.” He then ran down the street to tell other passersby about the grim news, leaving me to try and figure out what, if anything, I should or even could do next. Initially, I silently fought the reality, hoping against hope that it was a mistake, or some sort of cruel joke, or media hype.

But, somehow I knew in my heart that we had lost the Great One. I could feel the tears rolling down uncontrollably down my cheeks. I tried to stop them, but the more I tried, the more they flowed. I put on my shades to hide the fact that I was openly crying for “The King of Pop” for our little brother Michael. Michael Jackson was to many of us a member of the family. We had watched this phenomenal talent and human being from the time he was six years old, and followed him and his career all the way through his tumultuous adult life.

Many of us, yours truly included, had prayed for Michael as he went through character assassination by media for his unique and different lifestyle. And all the time, regardless of the headlines and vilification, we loved him. I refused to allow people to send me Michael Jackson “jokes” or negative depictions of him. Clearly they had forgotten the root of those cruelties. My mother, now 86 years old, was deeply moved by the sad news.

“They finally succeeded in destroying him,” she observed. No doubt referring to the vilification and persecution he endured over the last 15 years, where the mainstream media called him some of the most nefarious of names (which I will not repeat); and made inferences to his sexuality in an effort to assassinate his character.

To my mother, though, he was always “little Michael Jackson” that cute, talented kid. And I agreed with her. Michael was handsome, talented, precocious, a genius on every level -- not just his music and his dancing, but his innovation in the realm of the entertainment industry always continued to amaze, delight and inspire us all. You could not wait for the next album to come out, and could not get enough of the one he had just released. You could play Michael Jackson over and over and over again and never tire of his work.

Now, he was gone -- way too soon. Before he was able to vindicate himself. Before that British tour many of us were looking forward to. Before he could make the negative press eat their words. He simply, through the Grace of God, made his transition from a world that no longer served his needs, into a realm beyond which these low level concerns had any power over him.

Regardless of the autopsy results, many of us in the Black community already believe that the cumulative past stress, trying to make a so-called comeback, and reputed financial woes had taken its toll on his life - rather than some medical error. Even the concept of a “comeback” was a media one As far as we were concerned, MICHAEL NEVER LEFT.

He never had to prove anything to us. He was always MJ. We never signed on to the perjoratives and invectives so often attributed to him via the mainstream. Some days it was like watching your kid brother navigate through a stream of vipers and come out shining despite their efforts to tarnish his image. When Michael began seeking alternative means to stem the growing problem of a skin disease, leaving him looking so totally different from the youthful Michael many of us knew and loved, we were definitely upset.

However, the intrinsic Michael, full of life, soul and creativity continued to shine through. We did not rejected him. It was clear that there was a schism between Michael and the media during the 1993 trial where they tried to accuse him of pedophilia -- a situation he settled out of court so he could get back to work. Their take on it was that he must be guilty because he settled out of court. Our take on it was they were pissed because he had the money to settle out of court -- how dare he? It was during that time that New York conducted a Children’s Hero Award program, allowing children to vote on their favorite icons.

Michael Jackson’s name was among ten candidates. As it turned out, much to their chagrin, that Michael was the number one hero among all the youth who participated ages 6 through 18. The mainstream media tried to play it down, saying the children didn’t understand the seriousness of the situation. When it turned out that they totally understood, they just didn’t believe any of what was said, this caused additional consternation.

They then predicted that he would not show up at the City Center to collect the award, but would probably send some one in his place. But not only did MJ show up, accept the award, but he thanked the children, did a little ‘moonwalk’ demonstration, posed for pictures with them and stayed for a portion of the program before getting back in his limo. Yours truly had the honor of meeting him and doing a “mini” interview with him about the significance of the award. I admit to being as much awe struck by this genteel personage as the rest of the kids.

He was gracious. He bowed slightly. He had that somewhat timid smile, and though he appeared shy, he looked you in the eye when he spoke to you. He was totally present for everything. I remember feeling like a privileged person for a day or two, able to expound on “things Michael” and thanking God for blessings. The second time I was in his presence was at a press conference at Carnegie Hall when he participated in a conference on Love.

He was there in conjunction with Rabbi Schmuley. This was a totally different atmosphere, with less accessability. But, the over all theme, as it has always been with Michael, was about love, caring, sharing. We often marveled at his generous nature in contrast to many other stars, Black and white, who never made so much as a gesture to help people in need.

Michael was always aware of others privations, and appeared to be deeply moved. His roots were humble, having emanated from Gary, IN. He understood need, lack and want, and in some small way, tried to alleviate those problems. We understood his need and yearning for a childhood. There quite a few of us who began working at an early age in order to supplement the family income. It meant no hanging out with friends or playing games, you had a job. Of course, in Michael Jackson’s case, it paid off big time. So, if he wanted to go back and buy his own childhood -- or attempt to help someone else have one, taking it to a prurient level originated in the negative mind of the mainstream press, not Jackson.

Separating fact from fiction, though, was difficult for many of us, because they kept bombarding us with garbage. Even with the most recent debacle, we continued to know the truth for Michael, and the truth won out. When he decided to leave the country, we silently prayed that he would take his time, gather himself, raise his family, and live his life in peace, rather than return to a place that clearly meant him more harm than good. We were happy to learn that he had obtained a nanny for his children and things were starting to “normalize”.

Most of us knew, however, that Michael was driving by his creativity, and it would be difficult for him to sit idle and let things evolve. He had been creative all his life. His own self standards overrode any concern for media hype. Being a Virgo, he was both industrious, perfectionist and determined. The fact that he was trying to get in shape by training with Lou Ferigno, also meant that he knew he was up for a rigorously strenuous tour, and at 50, probably needed to get back in shape.

Any concept of having to make a comeback was purely that of the mainstream and Michael Jackson. We in the Black community play him all the time. We boogied to Michael Jackson at every turn, every party, every event. And we do so now, but for a completely and totally different reason. Our brother has ascended to Heaven. He’s fulfilled his role here, regardless of how we see it.

We now need to take our Michael Jackson inspirations and spread those seeds all over, so that there are no longer just one “boy wonder” who grew up to be a star; so that people realize that yes, Michael was a phenomenon, but there are so many talented, intelligent Black males and females right under our noses, who, with the catalyst of a Joe Jackson to find the diamond in the rough, may likewise rise to fame and fortune.

The question is whether there’s a way to have that happen and to maintain a childhood as well? I truly hope so. For that’s the other lesson that we have learned from Michael to all parents: never under estimate the value of childhood. It is those formative years that also build character. Michael missed his so much that he actually attempted to build one in; and it haunted him for his entire life.

As we gather at the Apollo, on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, at our favorite club, at the end of our block, on the subway, and sing Michael Jackson, buy the posters, the buttons, and the tees, we know that it is a small measure of the great love we feel for a brother who will never die in our hearts.

He is somewhere in heaven teaching the angels to moonwalk!

Where is Jordan Chandler now?

What are the chances that Jordan Chandler will speak out and inform the general public that Michael Jackson never molested him, and is not a pedophile?

I would love for that to happen — I think all of us who stand and fight for the truth would. But the chances are so slim to none I can predict that Jermaine Jackson will change his high top fade hairstyle first.

I can’t possibly imagine how he could spend a some 15 years with the strong guilt of what these allegations have done to defame a man he admires, and just not say anything; move to other countries, etc. Avoiding it doesn’t heal anyone’s pain; yours and Jackson’s. I know he doesn’t want the media attention, that’s understandable — but wouldn’t doing an interview (with a respected television interview shows like Larry King Live or Oprah Winfrey) put that all to rest? He will be 28 years old soon. The only thing he has to lose? Money. All the money he spend those decade and a half on ski trips, shopping sprees and whatever else. Perjury is a crime. A crime he may not be willing to admit at this point in time.

All you have to do is accuse Michael Jackson of child molestation and BAM! you TOO can win the lottery! You too can live in an expensive apartment in New York, all expenses paid by none other than the KING OF POP himself! You too can get your lazy ass chauffeured around in Bentleys a la Gavin Arvizo while being ‘held hostage’ at Neverland! You too can get your crotch waxed for free like his momma! Thank you Michael Jackson! Yes, my friends, “thank you Michael Jackson’ is what our beloved Jordan is thinking as he stands there on the corner laughing at how he ruined a man’s life by agreeing to a lie. “Thank you Michael Jackson” is what he thinks every day of his pathetic life as he lives off the money he extorted with a man’s blood and tears.

All the while, Jordan pops in one of Michael’s CDs and tells himself that it wasn’t HIM that almost killed the man, it was his mother and father, that he was just a victim of his parents. He tells himself that divorcing them makes him all innocent in the crime committed against an INNOCENT man. Jordan, however, doesn’t realize that he’s living in his own Neverland. What he should be thinking is ‘damn, I had the chance to right my wrong. I had the chance to tell the TRUTH and free my conscience and Michael from my lies at his trial, but, alas, like the coward that I am, I chose to crawl back to my little hole and pretend like I don’t exist. I had a chance, and I blew it.” Thank You, Jordan Chandler. I hope you are proud of yourself.
